I have often been frustrated with the Norwood-Hamilton scale, as it does not account for many different hairloss patterns.

In my case I have regression of the hairline, some hair on the frontal vertex and significant thinning on the crown.

However, I also have extensive thinning of the hair above my ears, and to a lesser degree the hair on my nape at back of head.

This pattern is not represented in Norwood.

It would have been useful if it was because studies could then correct distinct pattern of hairloss with most successful treatment.

We could also determine which sections of the scalp most/least responded to various treatments.

I know that the crown is generally most responsive, but what about hair above the ears? Has there every been any research which indicated that hair above the ear can thicken.

Anyway the below proposed classification I think better represents the broad pattern variations men experience generally.

Please take a look and see if you can find your pattern in this categorisation.
