I left a post before saying i didnt wanna start on finasteride, but i want to give it a go...

My hair is getting real thin at the temples and is starting to go thinner on top im willing to do anything now to try and change this. Its not so bad as people can tell unless they are close up but i know its happenning so i guess i have a better chance now ive caught it early enough.

Ive already orded nizoral shampoo as my scalp is really itchy and i can see that its red, i know all about the shedding that can be caused by taking finasteride from reading alot of the posts, is it the hair that is thinning that will shed or will it happen in any area? if it happens at all?

Also is there anything in a shampoo form that comes anywhere close to minoxodil as it does sound a pain to put on twice a day waiting for it to dry etc.

In my opinion shedding is not experienced by the majority of finasteride users.

Those that do experience a finasteride induced shed will shed those hairs that are already about to fall out (these are hairs at the end of their natural cycle) in the worst case scenario this will be something in the range of 10% of scalp hair. In most cases those experiencing a shed will not notice it.

Shedding is massively over reported on hair loss forums, after all this is where people come to resolve issues, if you spend an afternoon in a doctors waiting room you may conclude that 'just about everyone is sick!'

I am one of the majority who did not shed (well at least I did not notice), when asked (as it has many times on this forum) who experienced a shed from finasteride the usual response is a long long list of posts saying "no shed here" - "I didn't shed" - "shed free for 3 years" and so..

Yes Rogaine (with its 50% PPG) does take a long time to dry (if it ever does completely dry) mine sometimes was still damp after 3-4 hours !!!!! :freaked:

I strongly recommend Dr Lees Standard forumla minoxidil Product 500 on his http://www.Xandrox website) this stuff drys in 10 minutes, is not greasy and makes a massive difference to ease of use.

You need to get that red itchy scalp under control right now !!!

As well as Nizoral 2% shampoo, you may want to look at T/Gel and T/Sal shampoos which also help to bring your scalp under control, like all medications give them time to work, it may take 2 or 3 months.
