Hi... I've been using Minoxidil (the 5% topical solution) for a couple of months now, and I was hoping some of you might help clarify what my expectations should be...

Oh, my details: 40 years old, majorly receding hairline now, and pretty decent loss on my crown.

Okay, so I've been applying twice a day, although I have missed a bunch of applications... but I almost always got it on at least once, and usually twice. I use that 1-ml dropper and I try to massage it in with my fingers so it doesn't just drip down my head, face, neck, wherever. (I can't believe that there's no suggestion of massaging it in -- how the heck is it supposed to stay on otherwise??)

I started on September 24, so we're past two months now, but I've noticed no improvement. In fact, it almost seems like my hair loss is WORSE. I know the instructions mentioned that you would have a temporary increase in hair loss, but it said this would be for UP TO A WEEK (which doesn't make sense to me). Anyway, it is possible that my hair loss is just accelerating regardless of the Minoxidil, but I was wondering if perhaps the stuff is making me lose it FASTER???

And whether or not it's making me lose more, is it normal that I see no improvement yet??

How long do I keep going before I determine it does not work for me?? (Or maybe I'm not applying it properly or well enough? It messes your hair up so much that sometimes I run a wet my hair again a little and towel it a bit to style it again... maybe I'm removing the stuff? I also often have to run for the bus in the morning and sweat -- can you sweat it out? :$ )

Should I be only concentrating on the crown (as it says on the box)?... I try to get the receding part in front too, but the box says it doesn't work for that. (And I think my skin there may even be reacting to the stuff.) What about the parts where there's still hair (but thinning) around the crown, should it go there?

So many variables -- this is hard to figure out! :(

Thanks for answering! Also, does anyone have any other suggestions/recommendations for anything at all?

Thanks again!!

Hi,

I have been using Minoxidil (liquid ) for over 3 years and now alternate with foam occationally. My experience is that you need to stay on it at least a year to see results (mine came after 8 month's) also I applied it all over the head front to back and got results everywhere it was applied. At first it may seem as if you are loosing hair but that is because the miniature hairs are shedding to make room for the thicker new hair. The only thing I can tell you to get maximin results is try not to miss any applications, use it twice per day and hang in there. If you are having issues with the liquid dripping, you could try the foam but personally I think the liquid works better. Hope this helps. :)
