If you don't mind, I had a quick question in regards to BCAA's. I've read that taking the right levels at the right times (pre & post workout) can enhance HGH levels. So, based on a decent workout regimine and diet, could help imrove lean muscle mass and fat loss (believe it or not).

I'm not really looking to bulk or cut, but work on definition/muscle tone and maybe add 3-5lbs of mass. Keep in mind- I could lose or gain 5lbs within days, but i'm talking about weight I can keep on and carry a little better. Since muscle is heavier then fat, that's my target :)

Btw, I'm currently on a 3 day split and take the following supps: animal pump, mulit, o3's and whey 2x/day.

I'd like to add a BCAA supp to my regimine, but can't decide between the XTEND http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/sv/xtend.html and Universals BCAA Stack http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/univ/bcaastack.html. Price per serving is about a wash between the two, but I'm curious if you've had any experience with either of the two products I've mentioned.

Feel free to bash me if I'm way off base with my expectations or thoughts about Aminos..

do you know what happens to the protein when the liver processes it? Why do we have to take this stuff up to 5x per day? Why not just around the workout?

If you want to get amino acids to your muscles fast, you can't just take the essential ones -- processing time.

This is short in glutamine, arginine, and mythionine, and a little glycine, but I already have all of those. It is cheaps and covers everything. It is also high in BCAAs.
I can get 200g of BCAAs for $10 at beyond-a-century.com. Bulk nutrition has 1000g for $40.

My goal is to take 3g of BCAAs when I go to sleep and when I wake up, and to take half a gram during my workout, since the digested whey has a lot already.

I'll take 3g of digested whey with my other L amino acids 20 minutes before my workout, and every 20 minutes after that until I finish my workout, and will take it with watered down orange juice. I'll also transition with actual whey protein afterwards before I have my first meal.

I like this because the start up cost is low. I don't have to spend $50 on something big. So If I take 12g per day, the container will last me --- only 20 days. That is a bit pricey, but if I pack on an extra pound or two of muscle per month for the first few months, it will be worth it.

The rest of the day I'll just get my protein from oats and mackerel.

Not that you're interested CCS, but BCAA's are the reason why I'm using a more expensive brand (ON) of whey. You simply must try the new banana cream by optimum nutrition, if you can spare the cash.. 2lbs is $14.00 plus a couple bucks for shipping.

I've heard good things about the GNC brand, but refuse to breakdown and buy a gold card. Otherwise they're just waaaay overpriced. Discountanabolics.com is another decent site (price-wise).

i was taking a BCAA supplement for 1.5 years when i was trying to bulk up, along with Xpand (NO, creatine) and kre-alks (creatine). i'm not sure how much of a part it played in my success but i wouldn't hesitate using the product again. i can't remember what brand i used, it was from GNC nutrition stores.

when i dropped off my supplements and diet i noticed my recovery time was longer because i wasn't taking in as many calories and i'd dropped my supplements. so i got back to using just Glutamine (which is in those products you mentioned) to help and i think it has.
