Balding Accelerated. Can I Pull This Off?

I'm afraid the time for me to take the plunge is eminant... I'm having two giant lipomas removed from the back of my head Monday. I've also had a rough year and whether or not it's partially stress, my hair loss has accelerated drastically especially with thinning in the past month. I plan to give finasteride a shot next week and hope for the best in terms of being a good responder. Otherwise...

What do you think? Can I pull off the Yul Brynner or the Jason Stathum (longer 5 O'clock shadow buzz version?) My ears are pretty big and they kind of stick out so I'm weary to go for the full on chrome dome Brynner. Also I kind of prefer to have my face framed by sideburns and fading them off to keep the beard will probably be a real hassle. I imagine it could also help alleviate my ear problem some.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe if finasteride works out for me, but man... My hair is getting rough.. Judging from my father, I say that it's on it's death bed.
