Bald Spot question

Ok please tell me if I'm being utterly stupid & OCD (for the record my wife thinks that I am) but recently I have been pulling up my hair, which doesn't seem too thick in a certain area, and it looks like maybe the horseshoe bald spot developing all across the top part of the back of my head and spreading to my right hand side. The hair just lifts up easily in that area...is that possibly thinning hair & for certain that a bald spot could be developing? If I don't pull it up or brush it down, it looks fine. Still thinking about possibly starting Rogaine.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks for replying and I definitely will. I will take a picture if what it regularly looks like and then pick up the hair in that area to show you skin underneath it...I mean I know there is skin under our hair but it just looks like maybe a bigger area than what a non-balding area would be. Just not sure and not sure if this is how balding in the crown starts. Anyone who thinned or balded in the crown, is this a sign that you have hair in a certain area & if you lifted it up, it shows a lot of skin? Thanks.
