NOTE: NOT MY CONTENT, ALL OF IT IS FROM RonArtest69 on reddit: https://reddit.com/r/tressless/comments/9pwc9x/13_months_finasteride_025mg_mwf_i_shaved_off_all/

Just found this interesting that someone could maintain let alone regrow on such a low and infrequent dose. This is proof to all the naysayers that low doses or even less frequent doses wouldn't do anything. Although I would be a bigger proponent of this being effective with dutasteride because of its very long half life, so a person wouldn't necessarily need to take it daily.

No minoxidil. First pic is Sep 2017, second one is Oct 2018.

Do you definitely get less or better chance of 0 sides when you take lower doses?
I would assume the issue with finasteride is no one knows their right dose people just say waiters because it seems to work most of the time slot less people would get sodes if their levels were measured and a corresponding dose was given.

He's a good responder, thats all it means. DHT is still murdering his follicles half the week. He'd get even better results on 0.5 mg or 1 mg a day.

He might not have much DHT local to his hair so a low dose is just the right amount for him. Everyone is different. 1mg is still the optimal dose its just not everyone might need 1mg it varies so much.
Can we paste this in all the threads where they say DHT and androgens arent the cause of male pattern baldness or its more environmental factors than male hormones? Have him quit propecia and start eating better so we can see if his hair all grows back still

But on the flip side, finasteride isn't murdering his libido as much. I think most people would rather have 50% results with no libido loss versus full results and plenty of libido loss. I think he'd probably feel the same taking 0.25mg daily though once his body has gotten used to it.

edit: Of course, the libido loss/hair gain ratio isn't down to a science especially given the flat dose response of finasteride, so it's more of a trial and error thing.

Low dosing isn't for everyone. I stretched out 2 bottles of Propecia for roughly 1.5 years and lost ground. It took many months after starting 1.25 mg of generic finesteride everyday for my hair to stabilize and many more months after that to grow some of the hair that I lost back. My decision was due to financial reasons and not because of sides. If I could go back in time I would of ignored my doctor's advise not to take generic finesteride. People report that low dosing is effective for them and there are people like me who say it isn't for them. Now, if I ever get any sides then I would definitely low dose and take it from there.

I also am iffy about the whole brand name vs generic debate. The generic has the same amount of finasteride in it as the brand name Propecia, but the filler material is different and so that can affect delivery. I have heard some hair transplant doctors claim that the brand name is less likely to give you side effects compared to the generic but that just doesn't sound right to me unless the filler material somehow affects the absorption.

Propecia in the U.S is currently $112~ retail ($10-$20 for generic) a month if you take the full 1mg, if you cut it into fourths though, it's affordable at $28/mo. Probably better off getting brand name Proscar (both made by merck), and cutting that instead for a lot cheaper.

If you’re balding and Asian, finasteride is a cure.

I also switched to 0.25mg per day after doing 0.5mg for 5 months now. With taking it only 3 days a week he is letting his dht levels come back up and then go back down cyclically and idk how good that is long term. This makes me want to try 3 days a week but the half life is too short to take this risk.

Finasteride metabolites inhibit for longer than 8 hours. You are getting the full effect of 4 days.
