AR 1 & sebum production

I recently read an article that suggests AR 1 is associated with oily hair and excessive sebum production. Would this indicate that perhaps Dutasteride would be more beneficial than taking finasteride?

Any thoughts?

One would assume that dutasteride would work better than finasteride to reduce sebum production, but a study done a few years with Merck's experimental drug MK386 (a specific 5a-reductase type 1 inhibitor) showed no effect of the drug on the course of acne. They didn't actually measure its effect on sebum production in the subjects with acne, but it seems reasonable to assume that such an effect would have had _some_ beneficial effect on their acne. The doctors were puzzled by its lack of effect.

I have a friend who took Accutane for seven or eight months of 2008. It completely got rid of his acne and cleared his face up. He had dry skin and had to use chapstick on his lips. He also noticed a reduction in scalp oil, and his hair actually grew much more wavy (he has pretty straight, heavy hair) during this time. By mid-09 he noticed the wave had started to disappear.

As for AR1 reduction, I have no idea.
