My hairline has receeded to a NW2 on one side, and basically I am looking to restore it. I am worried however about minoxidil dependency.

Anyway, by applying it to the slick bald areas would the surrounding hairs become dependent on it?

To a degree yes. Minoxidil once absorbed by the skin it is diffused in the surrounding area to a degree. However the hairs that are dependent on it will shed after 3 months once you top treating with minoxidil and they will resume there normal growth cycle. In other words they will shed then rest for the on average 100 days and then begin to regrow and repeat as nature intended them to.

Hairs that you stimulated to grow in bald or thin areas that grew for the first time in years or grew thicker. Will also continue there cycle. They may repeat 3 or 3 times or not at all reverting back to the starting point.

Minoxidil is safe and easy to apply. You really shouldn't be worries about hair becoming dependent. Its not more difficult than brushing your teeth. If you worried about time and ease then go with one of the one day application methods. Like Dr Lee's 12.5% lotion or 15% solutions that you apply at night before bed. The lotion is by far the easiest to apply if it all boils down to ease of use.

Thanks for that adolobe.

The only thing that is holding me back is that in 3 months I have an op for my jaw. So say I start minoxidil now and I get regrowth and say for my op I will have to miss applications would I be screwed?

I have read that it increases blood pressure, so more then likely I may have to stop using it lead up to my op. Do you think I should wait after I have got it done, rather then now?

Either way I am worried in case I lose ground.
