I don't know Bis. Some of the veterans have said it does "pump" that stuff into your system? I don't take it with grapefruit juice but that's what some of them have said.

In fact, I think I've read that some medicines should not be taken with grapefruit juice because it does get the stuff into our systems too fast, etc.?

Yes. That was tynan :)

It does not increase absorption, it decreases the activitity or amount (?) of enzymes that are metabolizing medicines. Finasteride is metabolized by cytochrome P450 and this is affected by Grapefruit as far as i know.

Grapefruit is dangerous when taken together with medicines for which a constant serum concentration is needed. This is not really important for Finasteride therefore I think Grapfruit wouldn't have much of a beneficial effect.

St. Johns Wort has an opposite effect.

Could you explain this one in more detail?

St. Johns Wort increases the activity of cytochrome P450 which is responsible for reducing meds in the blood (like Tacrolismus and Finasteride as far as I know). So the half-life of finasteride would be shorter if you take St. Johns Worth, I don't know to what extent.

Furtermore St. Johns Wort induces a transport protein that brings meds out of the cell resulting in decreased bioavailability for certain substances.

I have heard of this before on HLH in a discussion, but I believe the phrase "potentially reduce the half life" was used. Right?

Regardless, I was on St Johns for 6 months and quit due to side effects. It didn't hurt my results at all but thats just me.

But being that you are from Germany I am sure you have forgotten more about St Johns than I know.

Even if it noticeably affects the half life of Finasteride, this does not imply it does noticeably affect its effectiveness and I don't think it does.
