Anyone noticed any difference by switching Rogaine from 1x to 2x a day?

My story in short:
I am 33, noticed slight receding hairline when I was around 24-25. Propecia for the past 7-8 years, rogaine once a day. Never was sure if either of those are doing anything, but nothing much was changing with hair so I was happy with that. Switched to proscar divided by 4 pieces for 5 months and not sure if I imagining or there is real hair loss. Switched back to propecia a week ago and started using Rogaine twice instead of once a day. All meds are bought in Walgreens.

Questions:

1) Anyone here ever switched from rogaine once a day to twice a day and noticed any difference and if you did how long did it take? I switched to twice a day a week ago.

2) I read about some guys complaining about Proscar vs Propecia but also read that generics are supposed to go through the same rigorous tests as the brand meds. Could it be possible that while I was on Proscar for 5 months that my DHT was not suppressed at all? I switched back to Propecia a week ago and just praying that 5 months I didn't absolutely kill my hair and that Propecia will improve it back a little (I think I did have mild hairloss even though everyone is telling me I am imagining it).

Thank you.

Nothing changed with your hair? Thats a victory. Ive never tried Rogaine 2X and do not plan to. I have never tried propecia either. Ive just used proscar and my hairline has stayed for the most part. I stopped it for a couple months though and I lost a lot of ground :(. So I am back on...:(

Why change a working regimen? You said u were losing hair at 24 years old then u started this regimen and ur hairloss stopped and u havent lost any hair since then, thats 9 years without losing hair so why would you want to gain even more hair??

I have seen more than a few topics about his in different forums, - "dude uses regimen for 5-10 years and is maintaining hair, for some reason now he believes the treatment is no longer working even though he has been maintaining his hair for the past 5-10 years (or maybe he beleives he is somehow cured or w/e lol) then dude changes regimen or stops using everything and starts losing hair like hell and comes complaining on forums" -

Remember that most guys keep losing hair even with treatment, if you were maintaining for almost 10 years then u were winning like DonaldAnderson said... Did you really expect to regrow hair that u lost over 9 years ago??

I apologize if i sounded rude but u were just stupid bro, i probably could had make mistake if i had never read stories like this.. Either way i wish u the best, none deserves to go bald or lose their hair, sux a lot :/

anecdotal accounts will not be an accurate indicator of minoxidil 1x a day vs. 2x a day if you want to know you will have to look for some studies if there are any

Don't think you read my post well, kind sir. I never stopped any treatment. Just switched out propecia to 1/4 proscar for 5 months and then hopped back on Propecia. Just started doing Rogaine 2x a day instead of 1x.

One more question for folks here though (maybe a little dumb): I always only applied rogaine on one spot of my head (right receding hairline spot): probably 10% of my head really. I never applied it to the left receding hairline spot: if I do will it be likely to respond since I never touched it with Rogaine before or does scalp get 'used' to rogaine no matter where on your head you used it?

Bro i think u didnt read my post well, i never said that u stopped.. I just said u shouldnt have messed with a winnint team, if ur previous regimen was workin u shouldnt have changed ANY of it at all, changing propecia to proscar is still a change and i meant is if u had been keeping ur hair for the past 9 years it means i were getting pretty much the BEST result u could cuz keeping hair for 9 years is outstanding..

Im pretty sure u cant get regrowth 9 years after the follicules are gone ( could be wrong though ), so in conclusion i think u were having the best results u could and changing anything could only have 2 outcomes:

- keep ur hair (like u had been for the past 9 years with the previous regimen)
Or
- trigger hairloss that can be very harsh

That is what i meant in my first post, u were already having the best results u could so the only way was down by changing it..

I wish u the best man, keep on with minoxidil 2x a day and propecia like u r doing and luckly u will stop the hairloss and maybe even thicken up a bit almost to the way it was before u changed the regimen

There is no difference between propecia and proscar cut in fourth. The same substance.

That is like saying rogaine and a random brand minoxidil are the same substance.. In theory yes, but there are differences.. this is not the first time i have seen someone switch propecia to proscar and suffer hairloss.. His body was used to a regimen for 9 years, any small change could trigger hairloss bro

From what I read online and from what my doctor said while there maybe a difference in inactive ingredients between brand name drug and generic the active ingredient has to be the same. Moreover, generic drug has to pass the same tests that name brand drug passed and basically it has to have the same impact on the human body.

So far most of the "incidents" of hair loss that I heard that were occurred (going from brand to generic) were few and "anecdotal" (as in I found them online) and not scientific (yet enough to ignite and feed my worries further). However, so far my perceived hair loss is not extensive enough for close friends to notice (or to a girl I am dating).

My main worry is by how much could my absorbition of finasteride go down with generic proscar: could it really go from absorbing full 1mg of propecia to absorbing 0% of 1.25mg of proscar for full 5 months? I have already been back on propecia for 10 days. How many more months do I have to watch my hair like a hawk? How long does it take for DHT to stabilize?

Brianp, to answer your question about switching regimen: my doctor told me it is absolutely exact same thing and he himself suggested that I could save money. And going from $75/month to $2.5/month is pretty noticeable. In retrospect, I would say I wouldn't listen to him and keep on propecia just for psychological reason alone already. (To avoid this depressing thoughts that my entire hair will fall out in the coming 2-3 months)
