Anyone else read this about cyclosporine and hair loss?

These links don't necessarily show the results of studies, but ithey do strongly suggest that the auto-immune response of the body plays a MUCH more important role in hair loss than making your scalp itch (IE, without this response, you probably wouldn't suffer from male pattern baldness).

It seems that a topical formula of these drugs would not be absorbed systematically (and thus little to no chance of toxicity), but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be very useful as a topical.

Anyway, I just thought this was an interesting read, and I apologize if ithis is already common knowledge. And I am not promoting the use of oral cyclosporin; a high probability of death simply isn't worth it.

But this has definitely convinced me of what I had already suspected for a while.

While I do not advocate the use of oral cyclosporine for the purposes of male pattern baldness, I want to make clear to everyone that this is not a drug that will kill you or deplete your whole immune system like is being said on this site from time to time.

I happen to be taking cyclosporine for treatment of an autoimmune disease i had 3 years ago. I have been taking this drug for 3 years and have not even had a cold since I have been on it. The very fact that this is an immunosuppresant does not necessarily make it something that will risk you life by taking it. It happens to be a safe drug if being prescribed and monitored by a qualified physician. Like any medication, there are different things to look for as you dosage is increased. I have been on a relatively low dose for a while now, but while in the hospital, I was on a heavy dose of it. I credit this drug as being one of the things that saved my life.

So, I just wanted to do away with the misconception that taking this will put your self in imminent danger. People have been taking it for a long time and it has been used to treat transplant patients and those with conditions like mine. While it is not smart to use or consider for the purposes of growing some hair, it is not what many seem to think it is.

You may be right; I just read that long-term use can induce renal toxicity.

BTW, have you gotten any hair back while on cyclosporine?
