after doing some research .5mg is just as much useful as 1mg and it reduces my chances of sides, so ima stick with .5mg . im not even sure if i should even be taking finasteride so idk what im doing to be honest. but oh well im hopping on it this week and hoping that my hair thickens up a bit.

Yup. Me.

After taking 1mg for, 3 years I cut down to 0.5mg/day four months ago.
Shedding has increased a little bit, but side effects have gone from a few (I got a little moody, and a little less horney) to zero (mood is great and libido is through the roof).

To make up for the shedding I added nizoral and rogaine (on the hairline) to the regimen. We´ll see how it goes.

ive been on 0.5mg/day since i started about 5 months ago, chose to do this as it seemingly reduced side effects, i may have had some occasionally but nothing too serious and at end of the day if you get a few minor sides but get thicker hair/maintain then isnt that worth it?

i have shed a fair bit recently even on 0.5mg/day, which is pretty uncool but could be a sign that its working, time will tell!

but if your just starting 0.5mg is a good way to start then you can increase if you feel the need although im not sure of the benefits though...

good luck!

dangerousdave: try adding nizoral to your regimen if you haven´t done that already.
Research shows propecia in adjunction with ketoconazole to be more effective.
Seems to work like a charm for me.

Todd - at the beginning of my regime i used nizoral 3 or 4 times a week, mainly as my scalp was very itchy, but it seemed to dry my scalp further and cause more irritation plus after using it for a bit is when i started to see the thinning, coincidence probably but i got off it, it did make my hair very very dry so i moved onto herbal and non offensive shampoos that were gentler on the hair, also tried caffeine shampoo, not sure how effective that was.

i think different people react better to different things, and i think nizoral for me just didnt work at the time, i may try jump on it again sometime and i will let you know how that works out, thanks!

Been on .5mg for 11 years. Started at 1mg had some sides. Dropped to .5mg. Was balding pretty rapidly when i started (early 20s) - propecia worked quite well and I have a very full head of hair currently. However, in the past 2 years I have noticed some increased side effects again. That, plus the fact that no one knows what the long-term effects of propecia might be, have me considering dropping it.

I've been on 1mg finasteride for about 14 months and have had awesome results.

But, I'm having a real hard time financially so I'm going to cut it down to .5 for a few months and see how it goes. I don't really want to f*** with my regimen, but I pretty much have no choice right now. Since I've been such a good responder to 1mg I'm hoping .5 will still do the trick.

I'll keep you guys updated as to what happens.
