And if so, could you tell your experience? I mean long time user, stops for 1-2 months and then goes back to the drug. Does this cause negative effect on maintained hair? In how many months should i expect the shed to come after the day i stop? Is it an aggresive shed like minoxidil, or it happens gradually?

thanks

you would assume

that you would experience a shed approx 100 days after stopping the use of finasteride

stopping finasteride could cause your follicles to go to The telogen phase

"The telogen phase is the resting phase of the hair follicle. At any given time, 10%-15% of all hairs are in the telogen phase. This phase lasts for about 100 days for hairs on the scalp."

this is according to some dermatology site

Yeah I did. Noticed nothing. No shedding, no loss of hair quality, nothing.
Telogen phase lasts for 100 days, true, but that says nothing about how long it takes for dht to have an effect.

Finasteride works quickly (max concentration in blood plasma already after 2 hours) and well (proteinbinding is at apox. 93%). It takes at least two weeks after a prolonged use of finasteride for DHT levels to reach a new, stable baseline when discontinued, and several months after that for DHT to have any effect on hair follicles.

thanks for the answers, i would like to read more stories though.

Todd does finasteride work for you? I see you are in half dose, good to hear that a small break doesn't have an impact on your gains. I am on .33mg but it boosted the already decent results i had from using minoxidil alone. I have to stop for a couple of months because i should join the army, and i am kinda worried...

finasteride, along with mino and nizo mantains quite nicely. I haven't noticed any increase in shedding since I halved the dosage 5 months ago. My hairline stays where it's supposed to be, and my hair feels healthy. I should add that, apart from a few mild side effects, wich dissapeared when I halved the dose, I responded extremely well to finasteride.

I can only speak for myself here, but a year ago when I took 1mg/day (and that was all I took at the time, no rogaine or nizo), I managed to leave behind my meds when I took a 1 month long vacation. Nothing happend.
