Hello all! I was just wondering if anyone had used just minoxidil and nizoral and seen regrowth in the hairline? i am just about to start the two as i am too scared of the sexual sides of the finasteride. Thanks!

If you are a good responder to Min, it will help for sure. However, I would recommend an Anti-Androgen like S5 cream or RU if you believe finasteride will give you side effects. I went in believing I won't get side effects from finasteride but I did experience them two-three weeks into the treatment even when I was on a low dose (0.25 mg EOD). The sides did not go away even after six months of being on the pill so I had no choice but to quit. My side effects included watery semen, gradual decline in muscle mass (took about 2-3 months), pins & needles sensation in my toes & fingers, and worst of all, I felt like an old man while working out.

Minoxidil and Nizoral won't be enough to successfully treat your hair loss without also using finasteride. It's pretty much finasteride or nothing until something better comes out. You basically have two choices. Either take finasteride despite the risks and expect to keep your hair, or avoid using finasteride and expect to lose your hair.

Its depends how agressive is your hairloss. There are some guys losing ground even after blocking DHT with dutasteride. On the other hand saying "finasteride or death" is bulls**t, we have clinical research of minoxidil and ketoconzaole showing their effectiveness against male pattern baldness.

Like the poster above said - it completely depends how aggressive your hairloss. Many people maintain and thicken on Minoxidil alone. For many people though that's not enough.

Minoxidil does promote hair growth, but most evidence suggests that this is due to its growth stimulating properties rather than due to any supposed mechanism by which it may interfere in some way with the underlying balding process. Eventually its growth stimulating effects will no longer be able to mask the potency of the underlying balding process, and hair loss will progressively go downhill from that point onwards. Topical ketoconazole may perhaps be of some benefit as a male pattern baldness treatment, but it is far less proven than finasteride. All that there is to go on is two or three small scale studies that showed topical ketoconazole to be of some benefit, but these studies were poorly controlled and involved very small sample sizes, and at least one such study was performed by people involved in marketing the product.

I'm not saying it is impossible to treat male pattern baldness successfully without using finasteride/dutasteride. However, your chances of success with currently available treatments other than finasteride/dutasteride are slim. Trying to keep at bay the extremely powerful, genetically-programmed process of androgenic hair loss without the assistance of potent synthetic drugs that have been purposely designed to fight this thing as aggressively as possible will be a very steep uphill battle that is unlikely to be won.

It seems that while new growth definitely stops at a certain point, a fair number of people do manage to maintain a consistent amount of hair while using only Minoxidil. ??

To me this question is silly. You only need to take finasteride. Which is IMO cheaper than the min and nizoral. Side effects aren't common. Stop worrying about them.

I took min and nizoral for over 6 months. No regrowth. But as soon as I quit my hair went bad fast.

I think for some people, it will buy some more time, I don't think it is realistic to expect to keep the hair you have for 5+ years with just using minoxidil and nizoral alone, but it could freeze the loss and possibly give a little more density if you respond well, but again that won't last. If it is aggressive, I doubt it would buy much time. But again, a lot of people don't necessarily want to take a pill indefinitely to keep their hair either. I guess it depends on how long you want to keep what you've got and what your expectations are ultimately.

They are common enough that they're all over the internet. You can't just mess with your endocrine system and expect no side-effects, don't be an idiot. If the dead hairs on your head are more important to you than the processes going on in your body then go for it, but to say it won't have side-effects is ridiculous.

Yes the few people that get sides (or think they get sides) cry bloody murder on the internet. But I took finasteride for 8.5 years not noticing a thing. And then I took min and nizoral and noticed plenty of sides. I kid you not I did not have any signs of gyno before starting that combo. And then I developed chest fat. Keto an ingredient an the shampoo is a heavy anti androgen. Let it absorb in your scalp and run over your chest in the shower and you may be looking at moobs.

Minoxidil. I couldn't run without getting out of breath. It was ridiculous. It also gave me brain fog and head aches. So I only lasted 8 months on those drugs compared to 8.5 years on finasteride.

But like you said. I eventually didn't want to be altering my hormones anymore and decided to quit.

The thing is this: this is a hair loss site for people that want to save their hair. For many men taking a pill that prevents the hormones that cause this is a dream come true for them. They don't care about the effects and are happy about them because they get to keep their hair. You and I now have different view points. But when I was 18 and barely even knew what testosterone even mean back then I didn't care. I wanted to keep my hair!

This site is a pro finasteride site. And I support the drug as the studies show it is safe. I get that people that get the sides on the drug get mad and don't want it to work for others without consequences but it does! If you get sides get the hell off it ASAP and move on. If you don't, be happy you are taking the best safest drug to keep your hair. finasteride is always worth trying. Comprehend?

I think this is correct actually. But at a lessor percent of success compared with finasteride.

Listen, you can experience permanent damage to ur skin from rogaine, or u can experience temporary damage on finasteride (assuming it happens). Fighting hairloss is all about aesthetics. Rogaine worsens aesthetics due to its effect on skin, whilst finasteride enhances it due it regrowing hair.

cliffs: there is no way in hell id choose to take rogaine over finasteride

Ok, lets get it straight: "...permanent damage to ur skin from rogain" - What? In LOOOONG list of possible minoxidil side effects there is only one talking about skin, precisely... redded skin. ".... u can experience temporary damage on finasteride (assuming it happens)" - if you dont believe to anonymous online reports of users than fine, but maybe you believe to company itself, this are words from Merck PDF about propecia sides observed in post marketing phase: "sexual dysfunction that continued after discontinuation of treatment, including erectile dysfunction". But, if we assume that minoxidil is really causing nasty side effects to skin including wrinkles and racoon eyes, and all this info is somehow officially sweep under the carpet, maybe same thing aply to 2% sides from finasteride? As far as I know all the sides are self reported by users, and long term user of finasteride Yoshi3Mario few posts above very accurately sums it up: "They don't care about the effects and are happy about them because they get to keep their hair."
