Minoxidil does promote hair growth, but most evidence suggests that this is due to its growth stimulating properties rather than due to any supposed mechanism by which it may interfere in some way with the underlying balding process. Eventually its growth stimulating effects will no longer be able to mask the potency of the underlying balding process, and hair loss will progressively go downhill from that point onwards. Topical ketoconazole may perhaps be of some benefit as a male pattern baldness treatment, but it is far less proven than finasteride. All that there is to go on is two or three small scale studies that showed topical ketoconazole to be of some benefit, but these studies were poorly controlled and involved very small sample sizes, and at least one such study was performed by people involved in marketing the product. Its depends how agressive is your hairloss. There are some guys losing ground even after blocking DHT with dutasteride. On the other hand saying "finasteride or death" is bulls**t, we have clinical research of minoxidil and ketoconzaole showing their effectiveness against male pattern baldness.

To me this question is silly. You only need to take finasteride. Which is IMO cheaper than the min and nizoral. Side effects aren't common. Stop worrying about them.
I took min and nizoral for over 6 months. No regrowth. But as soon as I quit my hair went bad fast.
It seems that while new growth definitely stops at a certain point, a fair number of people do manage to maintain a consistent amount of hair while using only Minoxidil. ??
Ok, lets get it straight: "...permanent damage to ur skin from rogain" - What? In LOOOONG list of possible minoxidil side effects there is only one talking about skin, precisely... redded skin. ".... u can experience temporary damage on finasteride (assuming it happens)" - if you dont believe to anonymous online reports of users than fine, but maybe you believe to company itself, this are words from Merck PDF about propecia sides observed in post marketing phase: "sexual dysfunction that continued after discontinuation of treatment, including erectile dysfunction". But, if we assume that minoxidil is really causing nasty side effects to skin including wrinkles and racoon eyes, and all this info is somehow officially sweep under the carpet, maybe same thing aply to 2% sides from finasteride? As far as I know all the sides are self reported by users, and long term user of finasteride Yoshi3Mario few posts above very accurately sums it up: "They don't care about the effects and are happy about them because they get to keep their hair."Listen, you can experience permanent damage to ur skin from rogaine, or u can experience temporary damage on finasteride (assuming it happens). Fighting hairloss is all about aesthetics. Rogaine worsens aesthetics due to its effect on skin, whilst finasteride enhances it due it regrowing hair. cliffs: there is no way in hell id choose to take rogaine over finasteride
