I feel like all i read are the horror stories about minoxidil making peoples frontal area look worst?

My situation was this with minoxidil......

I might have started using it a tad bit to early as well, i have long hair though, so alot of thinning is covered by the length of my hair, had my hair been shorter i think (pretty sure) i would be a good candidate for it.

Anyway

Ive been on propecia for over 2 yrs, added minoxidil about 3-4 months ago, after about 2 months i definatly feel like i noticed a thinning to my frontal area, i freaked out for about a week or so, but when i look at it now, it looks the same as when i started. So not sure if it was all in my head or what, i havent really noticed much regrowth, with the exception of my temple areas where little hairs are sprouting up.

I guess my question is this, Is there anyone that does not think minoxidil screwed up their frontal area, or is there only horror stories?

my guess is only the guys with miserable stories are posting.

well i grew all my frontal hair, which i was in serious trouble (almost bald) in 3 months of use, but like i posted in a tread today, the minoxidil irritation kill all my regrow (i was so stupid no to do anything about it until now) now i'm using minoxidil no pg, no irritation, let see if the miracle works again. i'm a diffusing thinner, in my frontal, temple, crown, and vertex. and with minoxidil 3- 6 months where the best which i thought i was cure, because i grew 98% of all my hair (specially frontal which is the most affected part) i will give an update when i have 3 month with out irritation. so go ahead and use it. one thing that u have to keep in mind, is that when u start using minoxidil in the frontal or anywhere like i did, there's probably gonna be a massive shed which it will scare the sh*t out of you, but DO NOT STOP USING IT. i amost did, but i'm glad i didn't cause withing 3 weeks my hair stoped falling. and i grew all my shed hair, plus much much much MUCH MORE. personal experience.

also NOTE: i thought it wasn't working until one day (3 month after) i woke up and notice how thick my hair was. is funny because it was like a one day magic for me

Here's another story for you. I'm on finasteride and minoxidil for about 2.5 months, basically just to combat the thinning i have in one temple (yea, just one, its weird). Since starting minoxidil, within 1.5 months I started seeing a bunch of new hairs growing over the applied area of my temple.

Now let me say this: The right temple is probably a little worse right now than when I started. But this doesnt' scare me and here is why.

Since I wasn't bald in the area I was applying it, It was hitting the roots of alot of normal hairs. I think when the minoxidil hits a normal long hair, it starts sending strong growth signals to it, which kicks it into growth phase when it was just sitting there in normal hair phase (yes, i'm very scientific). This causes the hair to fallout, while new hair begins growing in the root.

Hence the shed. So, yea, my front is thinner now than it ever has been. BUT, there are TONS of new hairs growing in where there was absolutely no hair growth before. And this is all right where I applied the minoxidil. My hair is probably 2 inches or so long... so now its become a waiting game. These hairs growing in are probably not even a centimeter in length yet... meaning no real cosmetic benefit from them. If every new hair I see grows into a long "terminal" dark hair (of which they all seem to be doing, they are NOT white vellus hairs) I will have what looks to be a completely restored thick hairline.

pure speculation at this point -- but I can say without a doubt minoxidil has caused lots of new hair to start growing on my hairline. So is it effective in this area? I'll let you know in 4-6 months if they have grown to the length of the rest of my hair.

Yeah same deal with me.I applied 5% Rogaine to my frontal hairline and temples and im seeing lots of small black hairs there now that were peach fuzz 5 months ago. They are starting to get darker, thicker, and longer in some spots.Im thinking of using it on my whole scalp.Dont give up on Rogaine.I just switched to Xandrox 15 almost 2 weeks ago and it already looks a bit better. If you are really worried i would use this.

been using it for over a year now. don't think it grew many new hairs, if any. but either it or the propecia or both has made the hairs that are left in the front thick as hell.

hope this helps.

STAX, How are you liking the Xandrox 15, I have been using it at night for about three weeks. I have noticed that the stuff causes major residue in the morning. Plus my hair is stiff as cardboard too. I wonder if it is damaging to the shafts due to tossing and turning at night with it in. I started using monoxidil about 3 months ago and since about 4 months ago I have noticed my frontal hair becoming very soft and weak feeling. Does anyone have any experience with that. Its too early to tell if any growth has taken place with the Xandrox but I will post when my 4 months are up to give the news or lack there of.

I am curently into my 4th month on minoxidil.

My hairline has lost a lot of density over the past two months but only in and around the areas that i put minoxidil. I dont want to put people off of it, i just think that it may make things a bit worse for some non-responders.

A lot of people have had good success with minoxidil, so when the more unfortunate people come on these boards saying that 'minoxidil ruined their hairline', they generally get shot down being called 'paranoid' and i think another word I read was 'nutjob'.

Now some people may get hit by a massive shed for it to eventually grow back and they panic a bit, which i think is fair enough, I know I am panicking a bit with mine at the moment. However, some people claim that they used it for 6 - 12 months and it did not grow any hair back.

It is truly possible that these people are non-responders to minoxidil and finasteride inthe frontal region and i am sure this is correct in may cases.

Contrary to this, I have a theory that a small percentage of people may use minoxidil on the front which causes an intial shed of hair but this hair does not respond well enough to grow back thicker. This hair was obviously going to be lost within a couple of years anyway but it has a cosmetically disastrous effect on the shape of the hairline as a whole, especially if the minoxidil is not applied evenly or in an asymmetric pattern.

I think the fact that no-one really knows exactly why minoxidil causes hair growth/thickening means that we cannot disregard the theory that it may make things look worse or some people.

There are many OTC drugs that do not work for some people or cause occasional adverse reactions so why is this not possible with minoxidil?

I certainly do get paranoid about my hairline sometimes but I'm not a nutjob and i'm not trying to scare people off of using minoxidil.

I hope that my theory is not true and i will reoprt any regrowth i do get in my thinned minoxidil areas as soon as i see it.

Here's hoping it's a load of bollocks.

I think im just going to pray that propecia kicks in soon enough and starts to help / hold my hairline and rest of my hair for that matter ..

im afraid to put minoxidil on my hairline because a few more years of my hairline is A LOT better than me putting minoxidil on it now and it ruining my hairline.. buttt anyone else who is starting minoxidil on their hairline keep us updated on the results?!

Minoxidil is not going to ruin your hairline. Fighting male pattern baldness is a long process, an initial shed will make things worse before they get better, but you have to stick it out. These guys how try something for a few months, and panic, don't listen to them. The victory is to those who stick with the proven stuff over time.

I'm certainly going to stick things out with minoxidil, and once again i want o reiterate that i am not trying to put people off it.

I am simply telling you what has happened to me and my theory on what has happened in the worst case scenario.

I really hope my theory is it wrong but its really all about people's personal experiences - if your hairline has been shot to sh*t whilst on minoxidil you are goign to warn people about what has happened.

If it has worked well with minimal shed and thickened nicely you are goign to say go for it - it won't hurt your hairline.

None of us are qualified enough to say wheher it will do any harm either way but the obviously - the odds are very much in your favour.

If you haven't given minoxidil or finasteride or whatever at least six months, then you haven't given it long enough. Sheds can last four months for some people, and of course your hair will look worse after a shed. Again, this is all about avoiding panic and staying the course with a proven program.

JOHNBOY, im liking the Xandrox 15 because i use it before going to bed and although it does kind of leave the scalp a bit sticky it dries really fast and 15 minutes after i apply it i apply the 5% spironolactone cream on top of it and the stickyness goes away.Although i must say that i would hate to smell the 2% spironolactone because the %5 spironolactone still smells pretty funky to me.Anyway as soon as i get up in the morning i shower so everything is fine. Also the daytime Xandrox 5 dries incredibly quick, its amazing compared to the regular 5% Rogaine which was oily as hell.Stick with the Xandrox and give it time.Sometimes things will get a little worse before they get better but thats okay.I dont think you're hair shafts would be damaged because of having the Xandrox in you're scalp.I think it would take a lot more than tossing and turning to do this. Also mabye the Minoxidil isn't enough for you and DHT is still attacking your hair.Im not a Doctor but i would say get on Propecia if you are really worried and you want the best results.I'm starting Propecia in March. This is going to be my full regimen starting in March and i'll keep everybody updated.

Propecia 1mg Daily
Xandrox 15 (night)
Xandrox 5 (day)
5% spironolactone (night)
Revivogen (shampoo, conditioner, scalp serum) 1 hour after Xandrox 5
Dr.Lee's Regrowth Shampoo (3 times per week)
Viviscal
Laser Comb (3 times per week)

Damn! That is a mighty regimen.

You should be pretty successful if you can stick with it,

What's your norwood?

neiltom88, im a norwood 2 with slightly better temples.I'm hoping that after 2 years on this regimen i'll be a solid norwood 1 and maintain that.In the spots that i've receeded i have grown lots of small black hairs with minoxidil and the laser comb alone and im hoping they become terminal again with this regimen. If they do i'll have a perfect hairline but i would be really happy at a norwood 1.

Good luck dude.

I reckon I am probably about the same norwood as you by the sounds of it but i feel my hairline and temples are getting worse rather than better.

I have to say I'm becoming more and more intrigued by the lasercomb.

I wish they were a bit cheaper.

Thanks a lot bro and i wish you the best of luck aswell.Mabye Monixidil isn't enough for you.If you are really worried i would switch to Dr.Lee's Xandrox 15 at night and Xandrox 5 during the day. There is Anzelic acid in these formula's that are supposed to inhibit DHT in the scalp where applied.Yeah the laser comb is expensive but i felt that i didnt want to take a chance not using it because it could really help in a combination of treatments.Good luck and i'll keep everybody posted with my results soon.

Been using minoxidil for 6-7 months and the one area of my hair it certainly has helped is the front, perhaps because it's just easier to monitor growth on the front than in the back. But my hairline is coming in very thick and is fuller than it has been in a while. Yeah, it works. :) just wished it works forever.
