Anxiety + male pattern baldness

Hey guys,

First time poster here. Was wondering if you all had some advice or suggestions. I started losing my hair at the age of 17. My mom's side of the family has terrible hair, and I know I'm fighting an uphill battle. At 20 years old I finally got on finasteride, which seemed to have positive effects on my hair. I didn't necessarily feel as though I was growing anything back (maybe I did), but I felt like the hair loss had halted and that I wasn't seeing as much shedding after six months. My hair also looks much fuller in pictures taken of me now than it did 4-5 years ago.

I have been on finasteride for just over two years now, and haven't stressed much over my hair. Recently though I had a random bout of anxiety over my hair (don't ask me where this came from). And in the last few weeks I have noticed thinning and increased shedding of my hair. It's weird because when I don't stress about it, my hair feels fuller, but when I do it feels and looks much much thinner.

I was wondering if you guys had any advice or suggestions on how I should handle this. I'm not sure what exactly is going on, especially since I felt like I was having a lot of success on finasteride. I also take 1 pill (5,000 mcg) of biotin now. I'm not sure if that will help me at all.

Let me know what you think, thanks.

Maybe you had a shed? When did you start the biotin?

I started the Biotin this past Saturday. The hair was shedding/thinning before then. I still have 90% of my hair, it's just very thin, but nobody would know that I was balding unless they had a trained eye for it, which some people do.

I was just wondering if a shed like this is common every once and a while, or if this is something I should look more in to.

I also have very long hair that is kind of combed over like early justin beiber style. Maybe I just need a haircut, as I know growing your hair out long makes it look thinner for people with thin hair like me.

Anxiety has been linked to hair loss, sooooo I don't follow your logic here.

@op consider yoga/stretching and or deep breathing exercises I know it sounds corny and new age but they help alleviate side effects of stress and anxiety. Anti anxiety pills are for the birds and they almost all come with the warning of also causing hair loss. Kindofa****edparadox: anxiety causes hair loss and so does the medication that prevents anxiety.

Also: consider trimming your hair. Personally the longer my hair is, the more I shed.
