Another Newbie Question Regarding Rogaine (Very Curious)

Ok, do you think that rogaine can have a negative long term effect if disontinued? What i mean is this.

Lets say, im receding and thinning, but its not terrible, so i decide to take rogaine to see if it will get me some positive results, i stick with it for a year and get decent results, but i then say to myself i cant continue this regimen. Do you think you would only lose what you gained from rogaine, or would your body become dependant on it, and you start to lose more hairs as a result of starting to take rogain in the 1st place?

Does that make sense.

Basically, can rogaine if started then stopped do more damage then good? Or would you only lose the hairs you gained?

what will most likely happen is that you'll lose all the hair that you've gained and all the hair you maintained from using minoxidil.
In other words, you'll end up losing the amount of hair you would have lost if you've never used minoxidil to begin with. I don't see it doing damage at all, but it may seem like it since you'll have less hair than when you started using rogaine.

you may initially lose more hair than if you had not used minoxidil as some 'non DHT sensitive' hair may become minoxidil dependent.

this should, after a few weeks/months, normalize to a position similar to if you had never used minoxdil.

But if your on proscar would that not keep the hair that has not been specifically regrown by minoxidil?

Unfortunately, Petschky, the answer is no.

Applying minoxidil is like putting your hair on speed. minoxidil doesn't counteract any DHT effects, it simply amps up your follicles so much that they start producing hair shafts again like they did five years ago. The DHT is still a-knockin', but the insatiable lure of the minoxidil seduces the hair follicles and tells them... "forget about that DHT... you are having fun!.. let's party!.. let's keep growing!.. etc, etc."

So, once the minoxidil application stops, the party stops, and the hair that should have been dead years ago but were seduced to awaken because of the charms of minoxidil dies out too, finasteride or not. Suppressing DHT ain't gonna help those fuckers, they were on borrowed time anyway...

Tynan, could you include a new line in this graph, telling what will happen if ppl quit Finasteride say after 5 years.
Will there be a sharp downfall just like after quitting minoxidil?

This graph was put together as a rough guide to medications efficay from various peoples input, if anyone has data on the cessation of systemic finasteride after 5 years, then yes I would be happy to plot it in.
