I am a 27 yr old female (thought I should post here because its more active around here) and have been slowly losing hair since 18, I finally decided to visit the dermatologist in 2013 and the biopsy revealed I have Androgenetic Alopecia.* The doctor prescribed me spironolactone and rogaine but I havent taken them. The reason was I was planning to have a baby and didnt want to mess anything up in my body.

I moved to another country last december and got married in June. I have noticed an MASSIVE increase in shed in the last 1 month and half...I used to shed maybe around 10 to 15 a day...now i find hair everywhere I walk, on my pillow 50 hair, in the shower and after I blow dry 200 hair, i can literally pull 30 hair out when i wake up (they have already fallen off my scalp)....

Can Androgenetic Alopecia have a sudden MASSIVE shed? Its not because i went off any medication because i never took Birth control pills, or any hairloss treatment...

Am I deficient in vit D? Theres no sun where i am right now due to bad pollution...

Please HELP!

You changed your environment by moving to an another country. There is a lot of environemental factors that can accelerate hair loss : stress, nutrition and sun exposure are some of them.

Since you do not want to take medication, the only medical treatment you can do is LLLT (laser therapy). I don't know what is your budget but you can either buy a hairmax laser comb or a theradome laser helmet ( http://www.theradome.com/ )

You can also supplements with those vitamins (they are cofactors and should be taken together):

Vitamin D3 (around 5000 UI a day)
Vitamin K2 - mk4 (around 1mg. a day)
Vitamin A - Retinol or cod liver oil ( around 5000 IU a day ) DO NOT take the carotene version

Taken together, those vitamins with helps with hair thickness and skin quality.

Additionaly, you can supplement with MSM and Biotin. They have been proven to boost hair thickness and they make your hair growing faster.

But to get to the question spironolactone promotes female hormons so maybe you can take it while pregnant. You should first ask that. The problem is more that the cause of this sudden shed is unknown and that there aren't many topical legal treatments, so I am not going to give you black market stuff. But then you can also have telogen effluvium, search that first you match most of the symptons.
