Aged 18, been to the doctor and she says it's nothing to worry about. But I've been stressing over it, some advice would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe, maybe not. If there is miniaturisation of hairs at your vertex, thne yes you are. If there is no miniaturization then you're fine. I'm going to assume your doctor didn't check for miniaturisation, my advice is go see a hairloss/hair transplant specialist. GP's tend to be a bit clueless with regards to hairloss.

There is a lot of scalp visible though, it's strange, usually scalp is more visible with wet hair, but for you it's moreso with dry hair. It doesn't look bad by any means, but it's worth checking into.

I live in New Zealand, and there does not seem to be many hair specialists around, would a general dermatologist be able to check for miniturisation?

You have a cow lick. That might explain why you can see the scalp. Not saying you are/aren't, but if you are crown hair loss is easy to recover from. Take pictures in 3 months and come back.

Alright, thanks guys for your help. @ GoldenMane, I checked out your link, but this doctor does not seem to be listed in the list of dermatologists my doctor has sent me, and I'm a little bit hesitant to contact him. Thanks for your help anyways.

Sorry, I had a look at his site, and he doesn't seem to be advocating minoxidil and finasteride. That's not a good sign. Yeah, go find a dermatologist, and ask before you make an appointment if they know what miniaturisation is. If they don't then you'd be just as well to ask your friend or your dad to have a look. You could even check yourself. Pluck a hair from your vertex, then pluck one from the back or sides (usually the thickest areas) and compare. If you see a noticable difference then that is miniaturisation. You could probably tell with a magnifying glass, or one of those cheap microscopes you buy in some toy/hobby shops.
