Am I in denial?

Due to lateral thinning, I went to a dermatologist and he found some thinning on the crown which I think has been like that as far as I can remember. I remember when I was 18, someone told me that I am going bald based on how my crown/vertex looked. I still have no bald spot, but I would like to have thicker hairs on my crown and the sides. Dermatologist did a scalp biopsy and it returned "Androgenetic Alopecia" due to follicle having shrunk on the rear lower side of my scalp. Derma says even if the hair thinning is not a typical pattern, it can still be hereditary male pattern baldness, and he wants me to be on Rogaine as a precautionary measure whether I have hereditary baldness or not.

I am currently 39 and have some doubts about the biopsy result.

1) How conclusive are those scalp biopsy? My mother and sis have thin hairs but they are certainly not bald.

2) Am I in a denial? I will soon be getting a 2nd opinion.

??? huh? you started balding at 18 and right now at 39 you're doubting that you were ever going bald? Rogaine maintained your hair for 21 years?

No I thought I was going bald at 18 based on what someone at school told me, but my parents and some teachers at the school talked me out of it convincing me that hey see nothing wrong with my hairs. Maybe I will soon post my headshot to get more opinions.

Hard to tell you what to do without good pictures. I would post a picture of your crown, as well as your hairline with your hair pulled back. Make sure the lighting is decent but not so bright that it washes everything out or makes things look worse than they are. If you had started balding at 18, by 39 it would be very noticeable so I doubt you started at 18..but that doesn't mean you aren't now
