Almost 10 Months Into Finasteride And Concerned; Please Help

Hello all. I started finasteride in May 2016. Between 1 month and 1.5 months into it, I experienced the BEST results I have had on finasteride to date. I even posted around that time (June-July) that this was happening very quickly and really positively. Things were great. My hair texture was great and my hair was growing back. It was odd how fast it was happening, almost too good to believe if I wasn't the one experiencing it.

Then around late July, I started noticing the texture start to go a little. Nothing extreme. I was just curious. Maybe I was applying too much (Nioxin) shampoo and/or conditioner? Not enough? I didn't know, so I've been changing it up a little since. I also use Regenepure a few times a week. Then, between August and December 2016, no real improvements or diminishes to be noticed. I was a little concerned. And now, since January 2017, I've been losing hair. Today I lost quite a few hairs in the shower and even saw several on my pillow, which I had not noticed before. I wouldn't say my hair is as bad as when I started in May 2016, but that nice texture I got over the summer is completely gone and my crown coverage went from nearly perfect to slightly noticeable again. Is it possible that the finasteride is not working for me anymore?

I will say, the one thing that is still keeping me optimistic is that my wet hair looks a LOT better today than it did at any point in the last 10 months. So even if the crown is showing a bit more, the hairline is receding possibly (I don't know), and I have more hairs falling out, there's still that. Curious, isn't it?

All thoughts appreciated. I plan on seeing a derm this week.

your sucess on crown was only due to finasteride ? i thought you were also applying minoxidil ?

I haven't used Minoxidil. Aside from shampoos/conditioners, I try to steer away from topicals. I think combatting the problem internally rather than externally is a better way to go. Maybe it couldn't hurt, but my crown isn't a huge concern. It's mostly the hairline and the hair texture I'm concerned with (unless the crown starts to rapidly diminish in the next few months; yikes).

Oh, gotcha. Well thank you for replying anyway. It's hard to tell if my hairline stopped receding. I think it did, and I suppose if I genuinely can't tell, it must have. I'll even look at some pictures from a month or two before I hopped on finasteride and believe that my hairline improved slightly, but if it did, it did so in that first couple of months that I was referring to. It most certainly has not improved in the last 7-8 months since. Perhaps a little bit worse. So it's been odd.
