Hi friends,
Love this forum site!! It not only gives me assurance that I have company but also gives hope and first hand experiences from ppl instead of markteing webs on the net...

guys i just started on finasteride a month back (0.25 Fincar ...ie 1.25mg finasteride every other day) and I am confused about its good/bad effect. And the many finasteride experiences are scattered over various posts thruout. Can we use this one thread to document the finasteride effects on all users out here? Just a short account of what brand/dose you are taking and how did the effects stay/vary for you thruout the treatment duration. You can use the following format to give a complete picture:

Here goes my account (although i am too early into the treatment...only a month):

DOSAGE: 1.25 mg Fincar Every other day (after dinner)
TAKING FOR THE LAST: 1 month
EFFECTS- put an instant brake on the hair fall from day 1. I wud say hair fall reduced by 80% at least. (lesser hair on pillow, bath tub etc). Slight ball ache in first 2 weeks and low libido but not too bothersome. Now after a month my libido is returning back and sadly hair fall count is rising slowly too (although hair fall is still in control than before starting finasteride). I am thinking of increasing the dose to the standard 1mg every day now.
SIDES: Slight ball ache in first 2 weeks and low libido but not too bothersome.
OTHER TREATMENTS IN REGIMEN: Nizoral 2% 3X per week, multivtamin 1 per day, Fish oil capsules 750mg per day

Finasteride users...please feel free to chip in to the thread and help all new users like me find the effects that best matches the effects they are experiencing...hope this helps in some way.....Thanks fellas..

I was taking, .5mg Daily For 11 months which was up until december.

Hair didn't stop receding at first But the constant hair falling out ended, Like when you wash it or comb it, I wasn't losing 20-30 hairs each time. It continued to recede getting slower each month, by 11 I was seeing slight regrowth at the temples and frontal hairline.

Stopped due to sides which where - Testicular pain, stunted beard growth, decrease in sex drive.

All sides ended after I stopped taking it, Worked for hairloss, while I was on it, But I wasn't comfortable with what It what effect it was having on me in other areas.

DOSAGE: 1.25 mg Proscar every morning
PERIOD: end of September 07 - end of March 08
EFFECTS- I didn't notice any change in my hair for those 6 months, so I think it was working. Because I buzzed my hair down several times during that time, it was harder to tell for sure whether anything was changing or whether I was shedding, though
SIDES: Noticed sexual sides from day 2: no spontaneous erections, low libido, less sensivity/weaker orgasms and less sperm. After about 5 months I started to worry about gyno, first because I noticed my nipples looked sort of suspicious, then I started to notice some aching. I'm still not entirely sure whether the gyno side effect was real or paranoia, though. Didn't want to risk b**ch tits, so I quit Proscar at the end of March (replacing it first with Revivogen, which I dropped in favor of Proxiphen) Gyno ache is gone, but sexual sides are still there almost 7 weeks after I quit.
OTHER TREATMENTS IN REGIMEN: Fungoral 2% (same as bNizoral) every 3rd day, Minoxidil (tried Rogaine liquid, Rogaine foam and Dr Lee's)

Been on finasteride for a little over 6 months. Shedding seemed to be about the same as before I started the first 4-5 months. The past 2 months my shedding has gotten a lot worse. I guess I'll try to ride it out for a few more months but I'm not optimistic at all about it. I just have a feeling it's not working at all.

DOSAGE: 1 mg Finpecia every day (right after waking up)
TAKING FOR THE LAST: 12 months
EFFECTS: Definately thickened hair up. Still waiting for smaller hairs to grow out on hairline to make a proper judgement on hairline.
SIDES: Slight brain fog in first 3 months. Went away. Nothing else to report.
OTHER TREATMENTS IN REGIMEN: Zip.

DOSAGE: 1 mg Finpecia every day (around 6PM)
TAKING FOR THE LAST: 4-5 months
EFFECTS: Hair loss decreased after 4 months, and seemed a bit thicker
SIDES: Depression, acne, fat gain, low libido, and the worst thing: Gyno on my left chest (or at least PseudoGynecomastia). I sotpped taking finasteride.
Current Regimen: Revivogen 1x a day, Remox III on hairline.

DOSAGE: 1.25 mg Proscar every day
PERIOD: about 7 months
EFFECTS- slight ball ache, slightly more body hair, my ginger facial hair turned black, i think I have brain fog. Noticed regrowth in left temple region. Hair continuing to recede in frontal area, on both sides now. I got increased tingling in the areas where my hairline is receding, mostly on the right side. Increased libido (no outlet which is frustrating). Loss of motivation and depression, probably from hairloss not finasteride. As far as hair loss frequency or shedding goes, its about the same, around 50 hairs a day.
OTHER TREATMENTS IN REGIMEN: Nizoral 1% 5 days a week

I'm pretty sure my testosterone level has increased, I look more wirey than before which is cool, but i'd rather keep my hair, I don't often go around without my t-shirt off. I think the increase in testosterone is speeding up my recession
