Hello all,

I am currently 31 years old and am really concerned and confused about my hair.
I have always had a slight widows peak but in the past two or three years my hairline has receeding at quite a rate.
I have included pics to show you where I now am.
The main concern is the hairline but as you can see even the top is not as thick as it once was. My hair used to be ridiculously thick.
My problem is quite complicated because I seem to have symptoms of low testosterone levels. (weight gain, tiredness, reduced libido etc)
I have had blood 3 tests and 1 came back low and the other 2 came back normal-low. Because of the normal lows my dr doesn't think I need testosterone replacements.
I guess my first question is how does Testosterone effect male pattern baldness. Could this hair loss be connected to low T or maybe even high estrogen (caused my low T). I have not had estrogen tested as far as I know.
Because of all the confusion and concerns over my hormone levels I am really reluctant to get onto hormone pills (propecia) as to do any more damage. We all know the unknown risks this drug is connected too.

Saying this, looking at my pics do you think I would benifit from Propecia? The loss is worse and more noticable at the hairline. I understand topical solutions are very limited in there success rate for this type of hair loss?

I would also say I have had a hair biopsy which showed inflammed follicles which my derm suggested was folliculitis decalvans but I'm not 100% sure this diagnosis is correct. Could the inflamation be caused by excess DHT?

Is is possible to measure DHT in a blood test?

So basically to kick off there is where I am.
I would really appreciate any comments or help anyone could give me at the start of my hair preservation journey!
Thank you

My hairloss is similar to yours, and I've had a lot of success with propecia. It grew back most of my hairline. I was not losing hair on my crown at all.

Give propecia a try. BUt talk to your doctor first. Get bloodwork done or whatever, since you already have hormonal issues. Start with a half dose or something, and stop at the first sign of sides. Eventually you can choose to start rogaine as well if you are not satisfied with the results.

Just dont listen to anyone else who talks about insulin levels or any herbal crap. There is only the big 3. Propecia, Rogaine, and Nizoral shampoo.

I'll answer any questions I can for you.
