Hi guys,

I'm brand new to the site. Never used any hair products before. I have always had thin hair but have recently noticed a patch on the top of my head. Although thin, I'm not really worried about the frontal areas, its just the crown at the moment.

Could anyone provide me with any information with regards to treatment?

Cheers

Hi,

Have you been diagnosed with male pattern baldness by a dermatologist? Do you have any pictures to show what stage you are at? Also, how old are you?

Anyways, if you do you have male pattern baldness, then the only proven remedies are the Big 3:

(1) Propecia
(2) Minoxidil (Rogaine)
(3) Nizoral Shampoo

Many people find Rogaine to be a hassle and more of a last resort than anything. Others find it to be a great product.

Finasteride can cause side effects in a very few number of men, but the vast majority (98%) don't experience any.

Hi, I'm 24 and am thinning on the top and am extremely concerned. Bit worried about the shedding effect. Was thinking of starting on Nizoral and finasteride. What do you think?

finasteride is the #1 recommended treatment here. Best bet is to get a prescription for proscar and cut it up into 1/4ths to save money. (5 mg / 4 = 1.25 mg each)

I think the general consensus is that you might want to try finasteride for 6 months+ before starting on Rogaine. Rogaine is forever. Once you start, you have to remain on it for life, meaning you need to apply it morning and night. Many people find this to be a hassle. If you stop taking Rogaine, you will shed any hairs that became grew due to and became dependent on the Rogaine.

Try the propecia if you feel that's best for you. It very well might thicken up and maintain your hair without the need to add Rogaine. If you're not getting the results you'd like 6-12 months from now, you can always add Rogaine then.

I don't know very much about sheds while on finasteride. Some people get them, some don't.

Good luck, friend.
