1) once u start it, dont stop till u see results or at least be on it for 2 years before calling it quits

2) if u decided to change to 1/2 tab or 1/4 from the original dosage pls do so gradually and after u have seen results (stoppage of hair loss ect) so as to more accurately single out problems if there are any with regard to treatment

3)If u decide to stop finasteride forever, pls do do gradually and not overnight....

Hope u find this useful....THe purpose of the above guideline is to help u go smoothly without probs be it stopping or taking finasteride

why do you suggest tapering off of the finasteride instead of going 'cold turkey' if one decides to get off of the drug for life?

it's like taking out one stitch at a time and not exposing the whole wound if you know what I mean.

gradually lowering your dose of any medicine before cessation is important, especially if you've been on said medicine for any period of time. the body is incredibly sensitive, propecia has inhibited DHT for a period of time and the body has made adjustments based on that fact. Once the DHT is no longer being inhibited, you're "confusing" your body so to speak if you abruptly stop. it could lead to undesirable side effects.

I've just switched to dutasteride, do you think I'm well advised to gradually reduce the finasteride over the next couple of weeks rather than just swapping meds then?

(The specialist I see just said stop the finasteride and switch to dutasteride).
