Adderall

So I have a prescription for Adderall. As some of you know I am following a strict diet and using an ECA stack(ephedrine, caffeine, aspirin) along with it. I've cut out the aspirin actually, so now I just take the ephedrine and caffeine 3x a day. I am wondering if you guys(docj077?) think that it is safe to take 20 mg of Adderall once a day along with the ECA stack. Or should I just substitute the Adderall for the ECA stack?

Thanks.

ADD

We're going to give Adderall a try and if that doesn't do anything for me then we'll try Ritalin and Concerta.

Any ideas though from people on whether it's safe to take Adderall along with ephedrine? They are both stimulants right?

Ephedrine OR Adderall. I wouldn't take them together. They have differing mechanisms of action, but they eventually do the same thing. Too many stimulants and you'll be bouncing off the walls. There could be some potentially harmful side effects if they are both used.

Listen to the guidance of your doctor on this one. Even if he or she does chew your *** for taking ephedrine.

Doctor is it true that adderall(or a similar amphetamine mix) used to be prescribed off-label for weight loss? if so, wouldn't this possibly make adderall more effective for my goals in addition to giving me ADD benefits, unlike ephedrine? so it seems like a no brainer to take the adderall over the ephedrine, right?

JayMan...

what kind of adderall are you taking? XR? Generic 10mg?

Adderall will make you lose weight, but be advised, the weight you will be losing will be muscle because you lose the weight because the drug kills your appetite. As soon as you go off of it and your appetite comes back, your reduced muscle mass will make you put on the fat like you wouldn't believe.

Case in point, I started adderall and was about 185 lbs. I dropped down to like 169 in 3 months. As soon as I got off of it, I got back up to 187, and it was a very flabby 187.

I would suggest making yourself eat on it...take the appetite-suppressant effects and run with them, but make sure you eat SOMETHING...a granola bar every couple of hours when youre not hungry....or you will just be losing muscle because your body will constantly be in a catabolic state.

I take it then that Adderal is not addictive? I was affraid one of my friends was addicted, but she said finally got off it, but that it was hard to think without it.

Adderall XR (extended release), and retains patent rights on Adderall XR that will expire in 2009.[1]

Adderall is now sold in either an immediate-release tablet or an extended-release capsule, marketed as Adderall XR (for "eXtended Release"). Doses for both immediate-release and extended-release form come in 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30mg tablets.

college, i didn't find anything. my Doctor said adderall is basically legalized speed. IN FACT, he said, and wikipedia confirmed it, but he said that adderall formulations used to be prescribed a lot for people who were obese, and they lost substantial weight on it, due to the increased energy and increased metabolism and increased heart rate. he said that it is still legal to prescribe it off-label for that, but he doesn't know anyone who does.

STILL, it is definitely beneficial for me in keeping my weight off.

your idea won't work though. adderall is a schedule II controlled substance which means that every prescription written for it is reported to the DEA(physicians have a DEA # that they use to write controled substance scripts, docs can even write scripts for cocaine I believe if they think it's medically necessary, but docj077 can confirm or deny that). I think that Docj077 can confirm that statement. and since no docs will write it for weight loss anymore, the idea won't work. fwiw, ritalin and concerta are also schedule II drugs.

all i know is that i haven't slept in 26 hours and am not even tired. i guess that's what 30 mg of Adderall XR twice a day does to you.

Jayman, soon you'll discover that taking Adderrall, 30mg daily (TWICE, for that matter) is like pushing a dead horse.

Unless you're a meth addict, I'd cut down to 20mg XR, or half your 20mg tablet and take 10mg morning & night.

so it is like non-addictive speed?

no it can be very addictive. lots of things are legal prescribed medications that can be addictive. limbaugh was addicted to a legal drug, oxycontin, although his prescriptions from doctor shopping were not legal. the drug itself can be prescribed legally though. same with adderall, vicodin, codeine, morphine, all of which can be prescribed legally, and people can get addicted to any of them.
