about to start finasteride, should I go for a little minoxidil too or wait?

Okay guys, I kind of can't wait to get started on finasteride and have the feeling that I am doing all I can to save my hair. Thanks to this forum I already feel better knowing that there is a chance. I thought that I will hold off with minoxidil and see what I can get with finasteride alone. Especially, I am hoping to see some regrowth in that left temple. This way I could see if I am happy with finasteride alone, I am a good responder thus avoid all the hassle. Is that a good idea? Does minoxidil only work in an area it is applied to?
