I recommend using minoxidil with propecia. They work together very well. If you don't like the minoxidil that much, then simply apply once per day rather then two. Its really not a big deal once you get used to it. For the diffuse thinning, propecia should definetely help more then just minoxidil.

Get propecia from here. http://www.qhi.co.uk Get the proscar and cut into 5th's. Its even in the UK.

The propecia should help to some degree. I would give the whole treatment 8 months to determine if the white hairs will develop or not. I have the same thing.

I would definetely use nizoral. Its so cheap, cost is not an issue.

1) personally if its not an appearance issue at all now it shouldnt b a big deal in 9 months or so, so y not try propecia alone for the diffuse thinning area for up to a year and c how its going then? can always add minoxidil later and if u dont do propecia 1st u wont know which is working and will end up spending tonnes on minoxidil for the rest of ur life when it might not even b necessary. if it is an appearance issue at the mo that might b different though.

2) i got propecia through prescription from belgravia trichological centre, £60 a month. u can get student discounts. apparently though if u get it through a gp u can get it for just £36 a month..so after im finished with this lot il change to get prescription from my gp (u can just hand it in and get it at boots). dont know about proscar.

3) not experienced enough to know this sorry!

4) nizoral is used mainly to help scalp condition, keep it clean etc no flaking. which is important in growing hair, to have a healthy scalp. use it now and then maybe every other wash or 3rd wash neway its a good addition from what i gather.

shedmaster how much u pay for ur minoxidil? thing is if he starts with both together could end up potentially wasting lot of money no? i think if appearance isnt an issue yet ride out the propecia..just my opinion, is what im doing.

If he is experiencing regrowth of his temples with minoxidil alone after 3 months then I would definetely keep it up. It he is a diffuse thinner then I would also use both minoxidil and propecia in combination depending on how agressive his balding is. Sounds like it is substancial even though he has not lost a tremendous amount as of yet. A year ago, I would have said simply start with propecia, like you said, and see what happens. However, I would bet if you took a poll of the members of the board, 99% of them would have wished they had started their treatment earlier. Its a toss up though, because everyone is different.

The proscar tablets are a little bit bigger then an aspirin. Some simply cut into 4ths for convenience instead of 5ths. Its really quite easy once you do it. use a sharp knife or a pill cutter.

I get my kirklands 5% minoxidil from here http://www.minoxidilshop.com/buyersguide.html

At $7.50 per month, price is really not a big concern either.

I also strongly recommend using minoxidil 5% once before you go to bed, along with propecia. Keep in mind that it is easier to maintain hair than it is to regrow it.

You could either look back a year from now and wonder if you didn't need the minoxidil, or wish you had used it from the beginning. Think about it.

And if you are maintaining only, then you don't need that much. I suggest putting in on in drops with your hair parted in spacings of 1inch rather than the suggested .5".

Somebody on this site wrote an awesome post on how to apply it. Don't know where it is, but it's in the general discussion forum, written 1-2 months ago.

You won't regret it. Good luck man.

yeah but like I said its a toss up. Its up to you to decide. The one advantage is after a year or so, you may use it one per day or 2 for successful maintenance.
