hi Gang,

Firstly like to say great website!!!
I have just accepted the fact i have male pattern baldness, been in denial for some time.
I am 24 years old and extremely depressed about it all. I have always had a high hairline but in the past 12 months i have noticed some thinning, mainly at the front.Just in the past 3 months i have shedded a lot of hair and thinned a LOT at the front.
I have finally decided to take action and seeing a derm in a few weeks.
I very rarely wash my hair (about once every 3 months) because i believe washing my hair only makes it shed more, i see this topic is a little controversial on the forums here
in the past few weeks i noticed a build up of dandruff and my scalp became rather itchy. I purchased 2% nizoral and washed my hair tonight.
As i lightly dried my hair i noticed LOADS of shedding. I ran my hand through the back of my head (where it's quite thick) and pulled out balls of hair :( This is a massive thing for me and i would do just about anything to get my lost curls back. I'm guessing the next option is probably minoxidil of finasteride.

The pics were taken about 4 weeks ago (it's a bit worse now, will update pics agains soon)

Hello and welcome to the board.

I don´t have any big surprises for you since you have already mentioned you r way to go. The Big 3 consisting of Finasteride (Propecia, Proscar, Fincar,....), Minoxidil(Rogaine) and Nizoral shampoo.

Afterwards you only need patience and some luck, then your hair will definetly look better. Good Luck!

!

Not washing your hair for long periods of time doesn't help the cause - you need to keep your scalp clean and healthy to provide a good environment for hair growth.

As mentioned by Taugenichts, get on the big 3 and in addition maybe use a decent thickening shampoo or maybe Revivogen for the days inbetween using Nizoral.

Good luck!

I've used Nizoral once so far (just picked it up) and it tentatively "appears" to have reduced some shedding on TOP.

I was washing my hair maybe once per week (Head & Shoulders Shampoo) but at the same time had ceased to use hair products so I didn't give my scalp health a second thought. I also thought that over washing would cause my damage than good.

Now I am on the other side of the fence. Scalp health is essential and washing away any sebum buildup, buildup from hair styling products and or natural airborne dirt or dust is essential.

Those hairs that fell out after your shower would have done so anyway, with or without your help. It was not the result of Nizoral and it may take you a week or two to get your scalp health in order.

I'd like to recommend some Fish Oil capsules to help reduce inflammation. They really help me, so I have noticed with the "itch". 4g per day.

ill keep up the nizoral maybe once or twice a week and perhaps try the fish oil capsules as well

What are thoughts on begining say finasteride treatment before i see my derm in 3-4 weeks time? I think ill try wait but all this shedding is a bit of a downer

I could live with hair loss at 30, but not 24 :(

thanks again guys, much appreciated

i think washing the hair is overrated. it is good to keep the scalp clean but if hair loss is going to happen it's going to happen. look at all the homeless people without access to showers and are norwood 1s and 2s.

Your missing the point. Those people are not predisposed to baldness, yet, or at all.

On the other hand we are, so scalp health is very important especially when buildup and poor scalp health fuels the fire.

and im getting tons of regrowth

unless your scalp looks like IBM's(rotting flesh with bloody holes) I don't think it matters as much as you say it does. just my $.02

Thats right washing too much/too little, growing it long or shaving all have no effect. Your hair (follicle) does what its geneticly programmed to do it either grows unnaffected by DHT or it reacts to it and gets miniturised/dormant.
