8.5 Month Update

Hey everyone, I've been taking a little break from this board for a month or so. Just wanted to check back in and give a little update.

My story is that I have been receding over the past 4 years or so. I used minoxidil 2% for over a year. I stopped it in about March. At the beginning of April I started Propecia 0.5mg/day. Through the summer I noticed shedding. Every morning after I shower (and probably lose a lot there) I brush my hair and count how many hairs land in the sink. I could easily brush out 40 to 50 hairs. Most of them seemed to come out of the front, which is the problem area. My hair continued to recede and started thinning in the middle front.

In September (6 months into propecia) I stepped it up to 1mg/day and added Folligen at night, which I thought would help wake hairs out of resting. I'm now coming up on 8.5 months and nothing has changed. I'm still losing same amounts (shed) and seeing no regrowth. I'm not a newbie and I know I should stay on it for at least a year but I do not think I am maintaining. I have had no side-effects.

Last Spring I had my close friend tell me that he didn't think I had any hairloss and other friends make comments that none of us are losing. Now that has all changed and it's very obvious that I'm receding and thinning. I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to add minoxidil yet because then I won't know what did what and won't know if finestride is ineffective.

my dear friend,

The problem with your thinning is because you stopped minoxidil.

Not anything else!!!!
When i stop minoxidil after 2 month's most of my healthy hair were all thin.

Then i start back again but only on a once a day dosage.

My advise to you is:-
1. stick to folligen.
2. if you have stopped minoxidil for more than 6 months, don't start it back yet.
3. I would suggest you try this product called LION Innovate. It's hot news over at HLH.
4. If all else fails, get back to minoxidil.

I will not suggest you get back to minoxidil yet until you have no other solution.

Exactlly. Everyone knows that stopping minoxidil causes a shed. In addition, numerous studies show that finasteride does not work for all men with male pattern baldness. Some simply do not respond to it, as there are factors other than dht at work.

I don't want to add minoxidil yet because then I won't know what did what and won't know if finestride is ineffective.

Happy balding

GOTTA ASK YOURSELF ONE SIMPLE QUESTION:

DO I WANT TO KNOW WHAT WORKS FOR ME, OR DO I SIMPLY WANT TO GROW OR MAINTAIN HAIR?

Me, I started out with propecia for 3 months before starting rogaine early this month, for the same reason- I wanted to know if I could get away with not having to put that stuff in my hair. But it is preeched and proven that rogaine regrows, propecia maintains, and they each do so through different mechanisms.

So now I am on both, in hopes of maintaining and regrowing as much hair as possible.

But I should state that there are other things to consider: Money, tolerance to Rogaine (though non propylene glycol (PPG) minoxidil solutions are available through Dr Lee's minoxidil.com site), messiness with rogaine, etc.

Ask yourself that question. Consider and weigh the factors. That's my advice. Good luck.
