Greetings,

I have been losing hair since i was 14. Now, i am 23. I started treatments 7 months back when i was a solid Norwood 2/2.5. My regimen consists of 1 mg finasteride and nizoral 2% twice every week. I haven't added minoxidil as yet, as it does not fit into my lifestyle.

Since i have been on finasteride i have experienced a lot of shedding (no sides). 5 months into my regimen, my hair loss become minimal for a week or so. But, soon i started losing hair again. Now, it's been 7 months and my hair is going from bad to worse. I am close to Norwood 3.

The question is:
Should i continue with finasteride?
Is is that i am having more shedding than normal?
Should i add something in my regimen?
If i stop using finasteride will i regain all my shedded hair?

Please help me. I am feeling really depressed.

People say you should give the treatments up to a year, before you notice a difference but i can see how it may be hard in the meantime.

It's hard to know whether or not finasteride is working for you, it could be slowing down very agressive hair loss.

If i was in your position, i'd carry on taking the finasteride, but i'd consider adding an topical anti androgen, eg topical spironolactone or ru.

Once things had stabilised then i'd think about adding minoxidil with a hope of getting back to a nw2.

Please bear in mind though that this is just the opinion of someone on the internet

In terms of the depression, yeah it can be tough and again just an opinion most of the depression comes from what people think is further down the road for them rather than what they currently look like, so even doing something about hairloss and taking control of a situation which you previously had no control over can feel therapeutic

Thanks for your reply..

To clear things a bit, my hair loss before was not agressive. But, after being on finasteride, my hair loss has increased substantially.

Even I am thinking about continuing upto the 1 year mark and see if finasteride is working for me or not.

In the mean time, i'll look upto adding something more to my regimen.

Keeping my fingers crossed..
