Just a quick question? It has now been 6 weeks since I had a 1200 graph hair transplant. I have noticed that I still have redness in the transplant area, where some people say there redness went away after a week. I plan on calling the doctor but I was just wondering if redness varies that much from peoples experiences.

Also, my doctor told me to go back to the gym after 2 weeks. Some people are saying they had to wait 8 weeks. Any opinions on this? Does it matter? Why would the gym ( heavy lifting ) effect the graphs. At this point I am afraid I ruined the graphs since I started lifting again 2 weeks after the surgery.

I am seeing some growth already but the rest of my hair looks like sh*t from all the shock of the transplant. hopefully that hair comes back.

md2002,

The post-op redness can linger around for awhile although for many patients it dissipates within several weeks. It's probably just the variation in how you are healing. It did not sound like you are having any swelling or ridging in the area right? Consider applying Mederma cream ointment in the area especially at night before you get in bed. It can really help with the discoloration. But like any other medication, you have to use it consistently with time to achieve any results. You can purchase it over the counter at any pharmacy.

Most of your shockloss should come back unless you had a tremendous amount of diffusion level to your natural hair.

Listen carefully to me on the weightlifting thing. It's not the risk of popping grafts at this point because you are beyond that. It's the potential STRETCHING of the linear scar! :freaked2: You do not want to compromise the outcome of that. Just because the epidermis is healed does not mean that the inside soft dermis tissue is. :freaked:

Unless of course you had FUE done. Was that the case?

sorry to hijack the thread.
gillenator, I am getting 3500+ strips with Dr. Arvind on June 24.
Can you give me precautions for before and after the hair transplant?

I am currently on dutasteride, minoxidil and proxiphen N/spintrapC/tricomin.

I plan to stop minoxidil for 14 days before and after the hair transplant.
When and how long should I stop my weights exercise and aerobics?
thanks

Gillenator is correct - redness can linger for a number of weeks. It varies from patient to patient.

Try applying some distilled witch hazel to the red areas - This will aid and draw out remaining redness - if not all, some at least!

All the best!

No, I did not have FUE. The linear scar is still quite itchy too!! That's another thing that is bothering me. Just nuances but other than that everything seems to be going fine!

The itching is a sign of healing and glad to hear everything else is going fine.

tech,

The concern is that you are not doing any activity that causes or promotes tension on the suture line. Things like weight-lifting, sit-ups, stretching, even some of your aerobic activity. I would refrain from that activity for at least ten to twelve weeks.

Did Dr. Arvind provide you pre-op and post-op instructions?

Yes, redness can linger quite a while. It varies from person to person. I had some slowly fading redness until about 2.5 months.

As with anything else, collagen levels also vary between patients. Collagen is the insoluble fibrous protein in our tissue.

Gillenator,
I just contacted Dr. A. He recommends not doing exercises that could stretch the scar (Abdominal crunches etc) for 4-6 months.

He said I can do light exercises, aerobics and safe exercises 3 weeks after the hair transplant.

Kyle,

Congrats on your first post here. Are you saying that your lingering redness is actually helping you until your hair transplant grows out, better than the cosmetic products?
