Hi chaps.

I thought I'd let you all know how my treatment is going so far. I'm 25 and started noticing a receeding hairline and slight thinning on top at age 19. I'd guess I'm a norwood 2.5 with no bald spot on the vertex.

I'm on 0.5mg generic dutasteride, minoxidil twice daily and nizoral 1% 3 times per week.

I shave my head with an electic razor every day so it's harder to nitice shedding and vellous hair, but I've noticed some big changes none the less.

The first thing I noticed was the bald spot (about a 10 pence sized area) at the very front of my hairline filling in and the hairline at this very frontal area lowering a bit. The hairs were dark but not as close together as on non male pattern baldness areas of my head. This happenes around the 6 week point.

The next thing I noticed was a shed starting at 8 weeks. My peaks ( the corner areas) receded noticibly and the front of my hairline started to think a bit again. I basically went back to where I started, only a bit worse in my peak areas. I didn't worry too much as I thought this was normal.

By 12 weeks the shed had stopped nd after skipping shaving for about 5 days I saw some little vellous hairs at the front and in the peak areas.

It's now been 4 months and the very front has filled in again, maybe slightly better than when it first filled in before my shed. However, my peaks have remaind unchanged. Overall thickness on the top of my head ha simproved. I can tell by how prickly my stubble feels compared to before starting treatment.

I'm very pleased so far and hope to see some more progress by the time I reach the 1 year point.

Side effects:

I can't complain too much as I've had nothing serious so far, like gyno or heart problems. I have had some sides that have bothered me. The biggest problem is the fatigue I get every day which I assume is from the dutasteride. I've also noticed weight gain or water retention. I had a pretty uscly and toned body before treatment and have become soft and pudgy around my tummy and I think I'm holding water on my chest anf arms and anywhere fat is stored. My flesh feels softer and I look much less defined.

I've also noticed strange thing going on with my body hair. My leg hair grows longer, my lower wyelashes grow longer and are slightle curly rather than dead straight. My eyebrows have become longer and I'm finding stray hairs between my temples and my eysbrows. Also the backs of my fingers have sprouted more hair.

Building muscle is now harder and I'm weaker in my workouts. The tiredness and body softness are the two biggest issues for me but if I get most of my hair back I won't mind too much and will be able to work around these problems.

No gyno so far thanfully.

My libido is down to about 70% of my usual at the moment and erections are at about 80% as firm as usual which I don't midn all that much as I can still sleep with my GF any time really, though it's not as much fun as I'm less in the mood.

I'll update again when I notice significant change.

Thanks

So you traded slightly better hair for a semi limp c*** with less sex drive and a flabby gut?

We all know the tradeoffs involved in taking these drugs. I wouldn't call a 20% reduction in erection firmness "semi limp" but yes if I end up with a full head of hair at the expense of having a slightly reduced erection strength (which so far has not been noticable by my long term girlfriend), and the need for more cardio to keep lean and maybe a diet adjustment to reduce water retention, then it'll be well worth it. If after 2 years of treatment I'm not happy with my hair then I'll come off everything.

I've read that sides can taper off a bit once your body gets used to the hormone changes which would be nice if it happened with me.

This is an experiment. My hair is not the basis of my whoe life, it would just be nice to have a bit more :)

She is probably pretending not to notice and will soon be out on the town looking for some horny guy with a 6 pack with a c*** that doesent go limp.

Advice - stop the drugs, you are sensitive to them, thats why you are having sides and getting flabby.

0.5mg a day of dutasteride is too much. u should be taking it every 3 or 4 days. it'll be just as effective on your hair as 0.5mg (well, almost as effective) and you'll have less sides.

please stop i beg you. what else can i say?

jesus just please stop saying this to everyone who says they're taking 0.5 mg of dutasteride a day. you're not a doctor and that is the recommended dosage.

you don't know that it's just as effective. maybe the extra 34% reduction in type I helps a lot in regrowing once the type II has almost entirely been eliminated. that is a theory.

Ok....interesting responce from some of you guys.

firts off, I don't have a dick that goes limp. I slept with my girlfriend 7 time the last time she stayed the weekend and I didn't have any problems other than a slight stinging caused by a bit too much friction.

Secondly, my girlfriend does not give me any "sh*t about hairloss".

Also, we've spent the last 8 years getting to know each other very very well and have 100% honesty between us. We tell each other things that most couples would never tell. If she noticed a problem during sex she'd discuss it with me out of concern. She's like that. And I do the same.

0.5mg is the recommended daily dose. The only side that slightly bothers me is the slight weight gain. I'm taking about a few pounds. I usually keep very lean and tight as I have been weight and cardio training for years. I know now that increasing cardio will tackle this problem and waiting longer between showering and applying minoxidil should hopefully reduce the slighly puffy feeling i get in my face every once in a while.

If these are the only sides I will experience throughout my treatment and I grow a bit more hair and maintain the rest for a few years then I'll be one happy camper.

I come on this forum for information and to share my experiences and I'd appreciate if I got less attitude from people. Comments about my girlfriend running off with some guy with a 6 pack (which i have myself) and a hard dick are not really very useful or appropriate, and besides, you don't know anything about me or my girlfriend or my relationship, and my hairloss and treatment has nothing to do with her.

My very first post here was greeted with a grumpy attack full of negative attitude and now that I've posted my first update I've got some more hostile responses which are not neccessary. I have never seen this much hostility on any forum I've ever been involved in.

dutasteride is a better hairloss treatment than Propecia. I don't know why I get slated so much for using it.

Anyway, thanks for your time all the same :)

I'm very happy for you! :)

And for people telling you to get off dutasteride, or lower your dose, I'd hazard a guess that those side effects are minoxidil ones, not dutasteride.

"Sudden unexplained weight gain" is a minoxidil side effect, dutasteride/finasteride don't ever mention this but somehow get blamed for it by many people...

Hey man, you volunteered intimate information about your limp dick problem, if you dont want to discuss it dont bring it up.

You yourself brought up the correlation between your limp c*** sex drive, your flabby stomach and your new dutasteride usage, but then get mad when people suggest you lower dose or discontinue?

Trust me man, its not worth losing your girl, especially since it sounds like the drug isnt doing much for you.

And if you think your girl wont mind if you slowly become impotent, then you are WRONG.

thinning i think you just want him to be an nw3 like yourself. your sole view on life is that it's comprised of advantages and disadvantages and you would like it if a lot of people on here went bald because that would mean less competition for you in everything.

Thinning, I do appreciate your input in this thread. It's kind of you to take the time to reply. However, you don't know my girlfreind. She would not leave me over a problem with our sex life and I must stress again that we have a very active and enjoyable sex life, dutasteride or not dutasteride :), but if we didn't, she'd never leave me over it, even if my hardware fell off, I went completely bald, grew boobs and put on 30kg. We're in a very strong loving relationship and have come through alot of problems in the past and still remained strong.

Besides, I'm not here seeking advice on my love/sex life. I'm just letting you all know of my progress with these treatments, which after just 4 months is very good. My frontal and top areas are fuller and more dense than they've been in about 2 years. If my peaks (temples) fill in aswell and I can maintain till I'm 30 I'll have reached my goal with these treatments and I'll be very happy.

So please, no more limp dick or girlfriend comments.

For a quick update, waiting till my head is completely dry befoe applying minoxidil seems to be making a uge difference :) My face feels normal again.
