Hello all!

I'm from Portugal and I've been looking for a forum like this. I'm 34 (turning 35 in May) and my hair looks like this nowadays:

This was me in my 20's and late 20's

Although I regret being at this point, I've been coping with the fact that someday soon I'll have to shave the whole damn thing. I think the baldness is hereditary. Almost every male from my mother's side is bald and from my father's side, as well, so no luck there. To add to that, I've been suffering since my teens from a scalp condition that leaves it very ichy and red and with dandruff. I've always used as shampoo, Epiphane, Scaphane - S, Nizoral (but for a short time as we left my scalp really red).

So, questions:

1) What phase of Norwood am I at? 6?
2) From your experience, would minoxidil or finasteride have any effect whatsoever?
3) From the threads about new treatments (FIDIA, Stem Cell, etc) would/could revert cases like my own? I work on Stem Cell field (although my company storages the cells from the umbilical cord) and i find it hard to see that the Stem Cells will work on their own (there is still the DHT to deal with, no?)

Thank you all!

Stage 5a

Close to 6

You pretty much bald

Unless you consider hair transplant i wouldnt take finasteride

My opinio on finasteride is: only risk it when there is sth still at your head left to risk it for

I guess 27.

I'll see about that. I have an appointment with my dermatologist soon, due to the itchiness of my scalp and I'll check with her what can be done, at this point!

You shouldn't even bother with conventional treatments(fina, duta, minoxidil etc.),you have crossed the line of return.
Don't even think about hair transplant, the result would be unnatural.
So,the only thing you're left with is a mtf regimen(but i guess changing gender is not an option for you).

Btw..Since you are from Portugal,Fernando Pessoa is one of my favourite writers

Thanks Calchas. Last time I read Fernando Pessoa, I was 18, I think, in college! More interested in maths and economics!

So, ok, no fina, duta, mino! I agree with the transplant, not to mention the cost of it. Way out of my reach.

And change gender is a no go.

From what you've read and seen, would my case (and similar) be reversible under new treatments, technologies? I've been in the stem cells industry for 10 years now and I've seen their potential, at least in cases of leukemia and other blood related diseases, but I've also witnessed the (long) time-to-market that stem cell based products have to endure, not to mention that amount of paper work and research that is needed to have a prototype of a product.

The pattern is fully reversible with the ideal treatment, that's for sure.Hair follicles don't die, they just miniaturize.
But i have lost faith in science. They are searching in blind.

Are you willing to wait 3-4 years and spend a hefty amount of money? Then you can get all of your hair back during the beginning of the coming decade with Tsuji's future treatment. Meanwhile, I think you should shave your head; you have a good shape.

Thanks! That is a great compliment! I don't mind waiting, as I said, I've been in the industry for 10 years. I've seen as the breakthroughs come and, in certain ways, with a bang! So, yeah, 3-4 years is not a long time, I guess. Who knows, I might get used to the all shining top! Regarding the hefty amount of money, I think only a few will afford at the beginning but as the innovation go forward, it will eventually scale up and become available, money speaking, for anyone.
