3 months on Propecia and my hair has greatly thinned?

I started taking .5 mg propecia EOD back in January. My hairline was receding but now my temples look really bad. My crown has definitely thinned out. You couldn't see my scalp initially but now it's clearly visible. I've been shedding short hairs with white bulbs since I started. It was pretty bad the first month but now it's not as bad, however, the hair I lost after taking propecia hasn't started growing back. I know propecia takes at least 6 months for results but at 21 this is extremely depressing.

Shedding is normal before things get better. Unless finasteride isn't working for you, which means you're out of luck. Try dutasteride instead... or RU.

Same here. I'm up and down with how it's working for me. I'm almost 4 months in.

But I just got a hair cut yesterday. Hair is definitley thinner. And temples are worse.

I'm gunna ride it out for atleast a year.

Either you will aggressively lose like half your hair, or you will maintain. Apparently the numbers are in your favor however. Me and a bunch of other guys on here just happen to be in the, what? unlucky .00000001% or whatever the hell is claimed in the studies? Damn, life is cruel. haha good luck brother. :)

How do I tell if finasteride is ineffective for me? Just wait until all my hair falls out?

You could get a DHT test... but even if your DHT levels are lowered, I'm not sure if you'll still have success with Finasteride. Only time will tell.

that's some veteran advice right there. finasteride just obliterated my DHT. my levels went below range...but the entire time I was on it, I had horrible, horrible inflammation and RAPID hair loss like you couldn't imagine. So... there goes the theory that you should base everything on DHT. Are you getting any scalp sensations? itching, burning, tingling, crawling feelings?

buckthorn , how about starting with a very low dose like 0.2 mg ? used finasteride for a month and could not tolerate the itching and burning sensation.Stopped it a week back.It hurts that the best thing out there for male pattern baldness does not work for some of us.

There was a little itching for the first few weeks, but none since then. I've also had a bit of dandruff since I started taking finasteride. I've never had problems with dandruff before. I'm using Nizoral as well and still have those problems.

Have you considered RU? Good alternative to finasteride imo.
