28 Y/o - Is Hair At My Crown Thinning?

Hey everyone! I'm 28 y/o and I recently noticed that the scalp at the crown of my head is quite visible. Unfortunately I don't really know how it's looked a few years ago, as I didn't really ever check that area with a mirror. I am WELL aware that it doesn't look as bad (yet) as what many other guys are going through, but I just wanted to hear opinions before it possibly gets worse!

Of course, on the photos I uploaded, I brushed my hair aside a little to make it more visible. I could brush my hair back a bit, so as to hide it. But that's just because my hair is quite long now. If I had shorter hair, I wouldn't be able to hide it I suppose. To me it looks, like the hair around the crown of my head is visibly thinner than it should/could be?

To me it was very surprising and shocking as none of my close family members has gone bald. Neither of my grandfathers and also not my dad or my maternal uncles (haven't got paternal ones). Of course, now that they're 50/60+ their hair has gotten a bit thinner and fewer, but none of them went bald and none of them has a bald spot on the crown of their head.

I also took pictures of my front hairline, as it seems perfectly normal to me and no sign of balding there. So do you guys think this thinning hair on top of my head is a sign of balding? Or could it also have been caused by something else, since none of my family seem to have problems with balding? Or am I just overly worried and it doesn't seem so bad after all?

Sorry for the long paragraphs.. any opinions are welcome, thank you! :)

Thanks for your replies!
I took another foto with hopefully better lighting.

I'm still unsure as to whether my crown is thinning or this is just natural parting and my scalp just happens to show a bit more. Again, I'm just puzzled since noone in my family went bald.

Anyone has an idea whether these are first signs of male pattern baldness? Really don't know what to expect over the coming years.

Thanks in advance

Did your over all hair quality get worse/do you think that youve lost more hair in the past months than you normally do? Id say there is a high risk for that being the start of mbp. My balding started on the crown without my temples moving. If I were you Id visit a dermatologist and prepare yourself on starting using rogain and propecia if you wanna maintain your hair. Let a doctor have a look at if first though.

Edit: Researchers believe that mbp depends on your mothers father. Did your grandpa suffer from mbp?

I did notice more hairs lying around, but I ascribe this to the fact, that about half a year ago, I started to grow my hair longer, i.e. they are now more visible. Before that, I wore my hair really short und thus didn't really notice hairs lying around.

I didn't know my maternal grandfather, but judging by the photos I know of him, he wasn't bald. Could of course ask my family just to make sure.

I guess I will visit the doctor, just to make sure. I hope there is still a way to rescue my hair. 28 feels like a horrible age to start balding :(

Thanks!

No worries! Hopefully your not balding but if you are dont hesitate on taking immediate actions. The earlier you start the process against male pattern baldness the better :)

You started balding when you were 28, I´m only 22 (turning 23) haha. Went from extremely thick hair with good quality to a crown that looks similiar to yours. I have male pattern baldness on both sides of my family so was kind of expected even though it sucks. Hopefully big 3 can save my hair a couple of years atleast.

Good luck! :)

Just checked in with my family. Apparently my maternal grandfather had no signs of balding at all.
I know that this doesn't necessarily make me "immune" to balding, but it's still puzzling me, as I seem to be the only one in my family with this problem.

Anyway, I will go see a dermatologist soon to see if there are any other reasons for why my crown is thinning!
