Hey guys I have been lurking the forum for a while but the time has come to act.
I am 27 and have been noticing for a few months that I can see my scalp at the front through the hair. It seems that my hair has start thinning out and now that I am aware of it I have noticed a fair hairs falling out when I have shower or when I am running my hand through my hair, when I am studying or at work etc. I have been absolutely freaking out and not coping very well with it. Also, people think that I am going crazy and that there is nothing wrong with my hair.
I went to a dermatologist and he confirmed that I have the onset of male pattern baldness. He said I am at Norwood 1. He offered finasteride but I declined as I am too worried about side effects. He prescribed me oral minoxidil, to take one quarter of a tablet. Now upon reading some more it appears that there are some risks with taking oral minoxidil as it is a heart pressure medication and I do have a family history of heart problems (mother has heart problems and grandmother died due to heart problems). I spoke to a pharmacist and he recommended to start with the topical one rather than oral.
I have bought a 3 month supply of Regaine and also have been washing my hair with Nizoral. I know it's only 2 of the big 3 but I thought I would take it slow.
How worried should I be? Should I be doing more? I am also worried as I read that Regaine can cause more hair loss at the beginning of the treatment.
