Just thought i'd post my life story with hair loss medication ,this is also for my reference in the future! =)
I noticed just shortly after turning 21 years old that my crown was thinning and my left temple was slightly receded. Well rather I didn't notice, but one of my friends eloquently pointed out I was balding in front of everyone. Obviously at first I was in denial, especially as I had been particularly harsh on my hair that month (i'd dyed my hair with dark highlights and had to remove them by bleaching it a few times). However as a couple of months passed, and a couple of less subtle comments from other friends; I realized it wasn't growing back and decided to jump on the Propecia bandwagon!
When I first started taking Propecia I ensured I took it everyday as specified, however as time went on (about a year) I started to lapse and became lazy; sometimes missing days or even weeks without taking a single pill. Recently for the past month I've had financial difficulty from my job so I've been splitting my 1mg pills into 0.25 quarters and I am currently awaiting a delivery from inhousepharmacy (this is the first time i'm going generic and not using 'official' branded pills, lets hope it arrives soon!).
With regards to minoxidil, I've been using that around 4 times a week, once a day; sometimes two. Unfortunately I spend most of my time at my girlfriends house (who knows nothing of my hair loss situation) so I can't apply it twice a day whilst there as she'd notice and start asking questions. Apparently the foam is much better at concealing it's presence, but I must confess I'm rather scared of changing from liquid minoxidil as I've heard of people experiencing severe shedding after switching.
Surprisingly I've maintained my hair for the past 3 years. Some people have even commented on how it looks thicker than it used too. I mainly hang around new friends now and even though they sometimes mock other people for thinning (I never join in, I know how much it hurts!), nobody has ever said anything about my hair. In fact, one of my friends was mocking this other guy for balding; going so far as too say "I bet he's jealous of our full heads of hair".
I grow my hair out although I ensure it doesn't get too long. My left temple is still receded but interestingly my right one isn't. My "bald patch" remains mostly hidden providing my hair is clean and doesn't get too wet. The crown has definitely thickened somewhat, but I'm interested in ensuring I continue maintaining.
I am going to be introducing dutasteride once a week and fincar every other day. This is based on a recent study I've read which seems to show an improvement in hair count by combining the two. We shall see if it improves my left temple and crown somewhat. I shall also continue using minoxidil whenever I can, hopefully at least once a day. I will keep you updated about my progress =).
Sorry for the long post!
