Hi, im 24 and started thinning at 18 but my hair was really thick so It wasnt noticable and it was only a bit coming out then when I turned 21 it started thinning like mad :/ anyway I tried loads of different topical stuff and a lot seemed to make it worse so I went onto Propecia 15 days ago, first week I got nearly every side effect mentioned, no libido, going dizzy, skin went really dry, pains in my chest, I thought **** im gonna grow boobs but the thought of keeping my hair got me through it and then 3-4 days ago side effects all started going away away. My hair was thinning that's why I went on Propecia but I dunno it feels thinner to me now and something else is worrying me Iv noticed an increase in my chest hair like doubled in the last week loads of little ones coming, I thought DHT caused increase in body hair so Im a bit worried my dht is increasing, the pros since being on Propecia though, my scalp hardly ever itches and isnt anywhere near as oily as it used to be, my skin is less oily, some days no hair comes out (before hair came out every day) but other days when it does come out it seems more comes out in one go than before propecia.

I basically want to know if it sounds more like propecia is working or not or could it be making my hair worse?

Maybe your sides were all in your head, maybe they were not, but anyway, it is a good thing if, as you said, they are going away. However, that thing about finasteride making your hair thinner is all in your head. Now, I am not saying finasteride cannot make your hair thinner (although that would be veeeery rare), but finasteride just can't make your hair thinner in only 15 days, not can it increase your body hair in that small amount of time. Another thing, you say that on finasteride there are some days when no hair comes out... again, that's all in your head.... there is no way finasteride can stop (or reduce) your hair loss in just 15 days, that's just not the way it works...

At this point, I think you should stop worrying about what you see or you don't see, that's just not important (yet), give it at least 3 or 4 months, that's when any change in your body for good or bad (more body hair, body hair growing slower, slightly better quality of head hair (or worse) or whatever) should start to manifest itself...

Yep my hairs in my head :p, on a serious note though, I hope youre right about the increased thinning being in my head, my chest hairs increasing is not in my head though as I can see new small hairs in places that they weren't last week, I look and then look again and yep they are their, so chest hair increase is not in my head, side effects weren't in my head either as I was getting sharp pains that woke me up a couple of times and neither were the rest however yes they do seem to have subsided.

I appreciate what your'e saying about giving it 3 to 4 months and that the thinning may be in my head as its very early still but Iv read about cases of Propecia causing hyperandrogenicity within weeks of starting on it with hair thinning which has ruined peoples hairlines according to them (several pages show up in google search actually), and I don't want it to accelerate mine IF that's the case so really I wanted to know if the increase in chest could suggests this is happening.

Thanks
