Hi, this has been bothering me for a while now, I've always had a very high, uneven and orb-shaped hairline with fine hair and a peak, however over the last couple of years I've been worrying excessively about whether or not this is the start of thinning, particularly at the corners. I've been to my doctor a couple of times and brought it up, the first time he said it was nothing to be concerned with at all, the second time he said it was just a 'male pattern hairline change' that comes with age.

No males on my father's side have hair loss beyond a little recession, but it's 50/50 on my mother's side, with some of my cousins a few years younger than me having severely noticeable hair loss.

I've included some photos and just want to know if you think this is something to worry about and seek consultation about treatment for, or to stop being frantic over. These photos were taken in a number of conditions from low light to harsh light, freshly washed to unwashed and greasy for 2-3 days, pulled back and left as is. Camera flash was used every time.

Looks like a NW0 with widows peak to me. I'm guessing you always had that middle part a bit lower than the rest?

Please guys, PEAKS ARE NOT MALE PATTERN BALDNESS! It CAN be, depending on how your hairline looked and looks now, but not everyone has the straight hairline.

Hi

It's not so much the peak, it's the hairline on the sides around it, on the left it's higher up than the right and square shaped towards the corner, on the right it's slightly lower (but still high) and more rounded, that's the worry

I know how it feels to be paranoid. I'm in the same position though a little bit younger. It's a 50/50 down my mothers side too, she didn't have any brothers though so it makes it difficult to determine whether the balding is present past my grandparents. Do you have any maternal uncles? Try identify which side the balding gene came from (grandmother or grandfather). Then look at your mothers hair, her hair will resemble one of the two. If her hair look and texture is like the certain Hair loss victim in the family then I'd be worried.

As of now however, you have an amazing hairline for your age. It could be that your hairline is simply maturing as the transition from juvenile to mature usually starts during a young males 20's. Look at my display picture for a good example of this. He's 24 so a mature hairlike at that age is very common.. more so than not.

Whats your definition of balding, if NW2 isn't in it

The norwood 2 is a strange one since you can remain a nw2 very long, or entire life, even if u were a norwood 1 before. That is why some people consider nw2 balding and others doesn't. Yes u went from a 1 to a 2, but for many people they actually stay at the 2 for a very long time.

if you're nw2 at 16-22 chances are you wont be one of the "many" that stay nw2

Any form of thinning or in terms of recession, a Norwood 2.5+. You can tell when most individuals are balding. It looks unnatural, you lose the symmetry of your hairline and It becomes more rounded rather than sharp and aesthetic. Loris still has those sharp corners and outward curves which defines a mature hairline. When that Curved V stars to take the formation of a U, then it's balding.

There are a lot of people who move into a Norwood 2 during there early twenties. Their hair loss stabilises for as long as 10-20 years aside age related thinning. Some of these people end up balding in their 40's. The other lucky one's don't, only suffering from a very slow minor form of male pattern baldness.

You know what got me curious? Have you ever realized how back in the 80s there were many bald footballers, while in present days they're a very small minority? What do you think about that .. doubt they're all on fina

You do realise that finasteride has only been available to footballers as of recent years. They weren't allowed to use the drug up until around 5 years ago as it was banned for almost all athletes.
