I'm turning 23 and i have diffuse hair loss from front to top of head. Right now people wont look at me and say that im having hair loss, but when i study my scalp its clear that i have it. I have miniaturization all over. but can u tell me why -

1) no one in my family has gone bald. on my mums side up to her father and her brothers , her mothers brothers. and on my father side up to my uncles and my grandfather and my grandfathers' brothers. SO WHY ME?

2) if i start propecia / dutasteride, then do i have a 70% chance of maintaining for 5 years? (remember i have diffuse hair loss not male pattern baldness)

3) If I lose most hair after 5 years and i get a Hair transplant, then what is the success rate of the Hair transplant if i need most of my head from top to front to be covered with some hair?

Thanks
Insight appreciated.

male pattern baldness can present itself in a diffuse pattern. It's called patterned diffuse alopecia.

But if you're correct about having no family members with hair loss on either side going back two generations, I would go see a dermatologist to confirm that you have androgenetic alopecia(inherited baldness).

I would suggest visiting a trichologist, as there is an dermatologists are not very well educated in the field of hair loss.....

They will gaze and poke cluelessly at your head, and suggest propecia or minoxidil. Get blood work done, see a TRICHOLOGIST, and then decide on what treatments you should or should not take.

i would never see a trichologist. they are generally quacks who try to push their own potions on you. terrible advice imo.

I find that trichologists are actually more likely to map your hair for miniaturization, so you have conclusive evidence. Most dermatologists are reluctant to do this, or simply don't have the tools or patience.

and what kind of equipment do tris use for this? i know derms who will do this and some hair transplant docs like bernstein and rassman.

Microscope examination. Rassman is a big advocate of mapping, but he is a hair restoration surgeon who has a lot riding on his succesful patient visits. It makes no difference to the regular derm who can squeeze a zit out on a teenaged kid's face and write a prescription for some drug.... the co-payments are the same. An extensive test? Or a wave of the wrist? The money is the same. Trichologists specifically study hair, and so it is in their best interests to give a thorough examination, as opposed to the regular derm, for whom it doesn't really matter.

your questions are ignorant. how can we tell you what % chance you have of maintaining your hair without 1) seeing pictures, 2) knowing your stage of male pattern baldness(if you have male pattern baldness) and 3) being able to look at your genes.

I could tell you that you have a 74.6% chance of maintaining your hair for 10 years or whatever but what good would that do?

Sigh.

Repasting this from my earlier post:

"male pattern baldness can present itself in a diffuse pattern. It's called patterned diffuse alopecia.

But if you're correct about having no family members with hair loss on either side going back two generations, I would go see a dermatologist to confirm that you have androgenetic alopecia(hereditary baldness)."

There's your answer to 1. See a dermatologist to determine if you have male pattern baldness. Maybe you got it from a great grandfather or great grandmother carrying the gene.

I'd say you have a greater than 70% chance of maintaining for 5 years if you have male pattern baldness, and on finasteride, but everyone responds differently.

As for this:

3) If I lose most hair after 5 years and i get a Hair transplant, then what is the success rate of the Hair transplant if i need most of my head from top to front to be covered with some hair?

If you need to fill most of your top and front with hair then it will not be original density. You won't be able to get a low hairline like you want and the thickness will not be what it was originally. You should still be able to get okay coverage if you don't bald in your crown, but if your crown goes too, and you're a Norwood 6 or Norwood 7, odds are against you getting a very satisfactory hair transplant result.

looks like male pattern baldness to me

yeah it does. i still say see a derm to cover my *** but i've never seen anyone with thinning like that who doesnt have male pattern baldness. it's in the same pattern as mine , albeit a bit worse, and would look much better grown out.

I think the lighting is making it look worse than it is....it seems like the light was in front of you so the front of your head looks thinner than the back....try to put more pics up if you can at different angles and lighting conditions

You needn´t say a doctor, that is classical male pattern baldness. Some "doctors" might even confuse you more. And your hair loss is pretty advanced if we keep in mind the poor light conditions. Taken with flash that would look much worse. Get on Finasteride immediately and you have a good chance of maintaining and maybe even thickening your hair.

A hair transplant is not the solution for hair problems. The transplanted hair is usually very thin particularly for such a huge area as your thinning pattern.

Good Luck!

Taug I am disappointed in you. Usually you have an avatar with Norwood 1s. This guy looks like he is a Norwood 1.1. Shame on you.

this is ridiculous. this guy still has solid density and grown out i'm sure it looks a lot thicker, even though i can't stand the OP, but i'm telling the truth. you're looking at a BUZZ cut. most guys who are true NW5's will look that thin with hair at 3 inches. This guy wouldn't.
