Hi there, my name is Joe, im 22 years old and have been worried about my hairline for a good year or so now. I've been succesfully covering it up with a long fringe for a while but within the past 6 months I've definitely started receding a lot worse and it's not really working so well anymore... My dad receded badly at this age too and I would do anything to not follow in his genetic footsteps!

I've trawled these forums for hours but I'm still none the wiser as to what the best course of action is, do i see a doctor? I'm in the UK so not sure they can actually do anything for me? Or should i just buy drugs online, if so which ones? My crown is fine and my hair is thick, but its receding pretty quickly and i'd like to do something sooner rather than later!

My crown is fine and so is my dads, I would embrace it but i look terrible with short hair and my forehead is big enough already! I dread to think what i'd look like bald.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hey. I'm a year younger than you, having the same problem.

As you've got a lot of hair it would seem appropriate to begin taking finasteride, which will enable you to keep what you have and stop the receding. There's some thinning on your hairline and an obvious recession, but if you stopp the male pattern baldness now it will hopefully remain as is - which isn't bad at all.

goodluck..

I eat a lot of veg and have a fairly balanced diet so I dont think it's that. Also the fact this happened to my dad at around the same age swings it for me. I'm really unsure about just jumping on finasteride, can post more pictures as i dont think those quite showed how badly it was receding

Ive added another picture to show just how bad it is, I just want to know where to start with combatting this?

Im just gonna bump this.. I have no idea where to start with this

I'm similar to you, I have thick hair, no significant crown thinning as of yet, but an aggressive receding hairline from my nw7 father which has been steadily chipping away since age 17, I'm 26 now.

After over 3 years of experimenting with all kinds of stuff I can tell you that finasteride is an absolute must, without it male pattern baldness will continue to disintegrate your hairline and you could easy end up being a nw4+ by your late 20s.

minoxidil, spironolactone etc used without finasteride are unlikely long term to retain your hairline and certainly won't give you long term regrowth, I know because I've been using minoxidil for 3 years now.

At the moment, your hairline is thinning, but you don't have massive slick bald temples so your chances for success and some moderate regrowth will be good if you get on a finasteride + minoxidil combo now. Don't delay, you know as well as I do, the hairline recedes aggressively.

I order my finasteride from online pharmacy and I order my minoxidil from minoxidildirect, I think these are the best priced suppliers for uk consumers like myself, but please any other uk users. feel free to chip in with other places too if you know of any.

If your scared or sides then just slowly microdose your way up to the recommended dose over time and your body should tolerate it fine.

Also I wouldn't advise going straight into a uk doctor and asking for finasteride, they're notoriously strict, I managed to get a private prescription just!.. but only after I explained I'd been taking finasteride for 6 months already online with no sides and had demonstrated high knowledge of the drug and the risks, my gp was very reluctant at first though and he was one if the good ones apparently!

Maybe do like me, after 6 months of ordering online and you'll have less chance of getting rejected or even worse blacklisted! lol.

You need finasteride and minoxidil badly though if you want any chance of saving and regrowing your hairline, using Nizoral shampoo twice a week will help a little with rethickening too. Good luck!

Hey Irishfella,

I use Kirkland liquid and I've been using it for a good couple of years now, I tried rogaine foam for a while, but found I could never accurately measure the correct dosage when spraying it out of the can, so I was always overdosing and getting slight side effects like headache and dizziness.

I have no problems styling my hair with the liquid anymore though, I've got much better at it now through 3 years of practice, lol.

Primo I really appreciate the advice! thankyou.

I'm a bit worried about the side effects of finasteride as the internet seems to be full of horror stories but i'll read up further and get some ordered, how did you step up your dosage/what did you start taking and what do you take now? Have you had any side effects? thanks for replying!

babar, do you have access to a hair loss doctor/specialist in your area? I'm not sure about prescription laws in the UK, but if you have the option of seeing someone who can directly prescribe finasteride to you who actually specializes in hair loss, I would recommend that over ordering online - although there are certainly plenty of people who do that here and have been successful in their treatments. To me, having a hair loss doctor who I trust has been helpful and having someone who has seen thousands of patients and knows details about the drug I'm taking is a great source of knowledge to supplement the information I get on these forums. It's certainly not necessary, but it made me feel better about beginning finasteride, as I had similar concerns.

Also, I would point out that finasteride is a safe drug (for most people). As I'm sure you have or will read in the research, prevalence of side effects is very low. While you can certainly ease your way into the full dosage, I would suggest that you give the recommended dosage (1-1.25mg/day) a try. If you do experience any significant side effects, you can always back down on the dosage or discontinue use. Dosage questions are also things you could ask a specialist and another reason I have found consulting with a trusted Doctor is helpful.

I think the most important thing is that you do begin a treatment regimen as soon as possible, since you do still have a lot of hair to save. Good luck!
