The title pretty much. Picture on the left is from when I was 16 when I had long hair, and the rest are from today. As you can see my hairline was pretty high to start with. I've been concerned about hair loss for 5 years, and felt it got worse 2 years ago, but looking at the pictures I don't see much of a difference since then. Anyways, is my hair receding, and if it is, how long do I have?

Receding yes. At what rate is hard to tell, doesn't look too aggressive. I always had a high hairline from since I can remember, maintained NW2.5 until 25. Try finasteride but beware of possible side effects, chuck in minoxidil too.

It definitely does look like you are receding. I suggest you make an appointment with a dermatologist to get a professional opinion, and see if you can be prescribed Finasteride. The good news is that you are catching your hair loss very early. Catching it early is critical, because the more hair you have lost before starting treatment, the harder it will be to grow hair back once you are on treatment.

Receding but not bad at all and most people wouldn’t even notice it

Most men will recede in hairline, even those that doesn't go bald. Looks pretty good. Keep an eye on it.

I'm somewhat considering trying finasteride but I'm pretty terrified of the side effects to be perfectly honest, especially of the people who claim to have had permanent side effects. I don't wanna lose any more hair if I can help it, but I'm having a super hard time deciding if its worth it. If someone could make a solid argument one way or the other I'd appreciate it immensely.

It looks ok now but keep monitoring, don't let recede more. If you are afraid of propecia like me, get on minoxidil and you have the chance to at least maintain

Finasteride and Dutasteride are the only things that really work among currently available treatments. Minoxidil and Nizoral by themselves are not effective enough to successfully treat hair loss over the long-term. The only thing that will is Finasteride or Dutasteride.

The large majority of Finasteride users do not get side-effects. I've been using Dutasteride (basically a stronger version of Finasteride) for over three years and have no side-effects.

I'd say it is worth the risk, but ultimately it is your choice.
