21, Going bald on one side? Is this really male pattern baldness?

Hey everyone I'm a very healthy 21 year old with a pretty darn good family history of hair. Men on my mother's side never lost much, and 3/4 brothers on my dad's side have good heads of hair in their 60's. As the pictures will show, I've recently noticed a rather empty looking spot right at the corner of the hair. The thinning does not seem to be happening on the other side of my hairline though. I found this strange as most male pattern baldness examples show both sides receding. This makes me question whether this is
A) a bald spot caused by something and will eventually grow back
B) it is my hairline maturing,
C) I am in the early stages of male pattern baldness and need to start treatment
D) I always had it and not until a short haircut could notice

In terms of actually thinning most of my hair feels thick and full, but I do feel like I am perhaps becoming paranoid and staring so much and convincing myself it is thinning. I do have to say the part around the spot seem thin.
Thank you for your help! I really am stressing out.

The last picture is of a year before where I now notice my hair kind of has the same indent. I'm showing this to help compare and see if things have really progressed in a year, or whether I always had this kind of hairline.

Thank you for your response that is good to hear! I seem to be the only one noticing it, hopefully that does mean it isnt anything! Always interested in what other people have to say, but I am feeling relieved.

I don't know how either of you are not seeing the hair loss?
There is obviously a reason for some of this recession on one side and maybe it's just the fact your hair is combed over to one side but I do notice how it is slightly thinner on that same side as-well.
I can only advice to be cautious, you are young....in a year you'll know for sure if it's male pattern baldness or whatever.
Guys seriously, wrong way to look at it.

Nearly as bad as the guys who yell at the people who appear to be a NW1 but think they're loosing their hair.

Well he could very well be trolling, but overall I think lots of guys for good reason get concerned at the first signs. Even a tiny change in your hair is always noticeable to you right away and your first instinct is to prevent it and try to stop it. Given the current treatments how can you really fault someone for trying to catch it at the very first hint? You cant get it back after its gone

thanks for the responses, and i am not trolling! LOL, Genuine worry. So do you guys recommend I wait it out and see a difference in a few months? I assume if there is a difference, action must be taken. I do worry about whether not acting now is premature or smart (in order to save as much as possible).

Hmm dude your left side seems mature hairline u know , but if u gonna try something one way or another dont **** with finasteride cause u dont need dat maybe try minoxidil for that small spot on left corner otherwise no problem . And for me : the best responded area to min is temple peaks so u can create some cosmetical benefit from that area makes your hair line better u know . But just dont worry abbout any kind of hairloss

Thanks for that response, I am currently deciding whether I should treat it, wait it out, or start on finasteride or minoxidil. Anyone else think minoxidil is the way to go?

UPDATE: It has been 3-4 months and I'm still measuring about 3cm of recession, the same as when I first posted, with the hairs around that temporal area seeming thin. Here are some updated pictures, the first two are a month after the initial post, and the last two are from recently. IMG_2550.jpgIMG_2552.jpgIMG_2557.jpgIMG_2560.jpg

As the progress has been very minimal I am wondering whether to continue waiting or just go see a Dermatologist, if so do you guys think it might be smart to finally start on finasteride?

3 cm in 3-4 months is quite a bit. I was in the same place you are about a few months ago. Nobody else notices it, my gf tells me she doesn't notice it. However, when I take a look int he mirror I notice it. Frankly, others wont notice until you recede quite a bit, because they're not always looking at you the way you are.

Also, it is very common for one side to recede faster than the other. This is very typical of male pattern baldness and temple recession. Go see a good dermatologist. Also, discard what a previous poster said about finasteride being poison. As a doctor. I initially tried minoxidil but it made my scalp so itchy, plus it is supposed to hide your male pattern baldness. So if you want to monitor yourself, don't start doing minoxidil right away.

Thank you very much for the response, I will try and set up an appointment with a good dermatologist. It does make sense to start early right? That's the consensus I'm understanding, if I start now, I am likely to keep this level of hair unless I choose to stop finasteride. Did you californiaoceans start early as well, and have had very good results?

I only started a month or two ago, but I had to stop. finasteride stopped my scalp itch immediately. However, I recently found out I have a thyroid condition and I am off of finasteride for about 6 months until my thyroid condition is dealt with.

I have the same hairline. I guarantee you that you won't be growing bald. It is just a mature hairline. The human body isn't perfect. So you might always see one side having a little more receded hairline than the other.
