19 and balding?

Over the last few months I have grown increasingly anxious about my hair. One friend said I had really thin hair and another said I was balding and laughed, I'm unsure whether this was a joke. I have since noticed my hair does look thin uncertain lights and also when wet. I have also noticed my hairline looks receding but it has always been slightly receding. No one in my family is completely bald but my mothers father does have thin hair on top. I would like opinions and advice, thank your for your time.
