Just to let you know I have updated the "pharohs story" in the my story section, with new photos and updates of my progress since I started on propecia.

OK so the main point of this post is to get your opinions on my situation and starting minoxidil.

If I do start minoxidil it will be 5% generic and I will only be using it once a day (in the evening) due to my lifestyle (being at university etc).

Ok my questions:

1) I know everyone gets sheds on minoxidil and everyone says "don't worry, that hair is going to fall out anyway" - does this mean you will shed hair that is ready to fall out, or shed hair that will fall out in the next 6 months or what?

2) Is it possible that I can shed lots of hair even if I am not responsive to minoxidil? i.e. is there a chance I will lose my hair quicker than if I stayed off minoxidil and not get any regrowth?

3) Looking at my pictures is now a good time to start minoxidil? I was thinking about staying just on finasteride for a few months to see if I get any progress just on that

If I knew for sure that the min would grow my hair back then I'd jump on board straight away - my BIG problem is knowing I could start on min, it could make me lose my hair alot faster than I am now, only to find that nothing regrows and if I then drop min then I could lose even more hair, with the end result of being bald a lot quicker than if I'd stayed off it.

I AM ONLY 21 CHRIST SAKE I DONT WANA BE BALD!!!

thanks guys :)

Just to add I am only 21. This is the other problem I have with starting minoxidil - to be honest I find it hard to beleive an am a standard male pattern baldness sufferer in the way it started when I was 16, currently 21 and seem to have worse hairloss than a lot of the older members here. I just have that feeling that the treatments are more likely to work on someone with typical mbp, started at a later age perhaps, or atleast not been so sudden and aggresive.

Sayin that of course I know the methods have more chance pof working if used within the first 7 years of starting hairloss, which I guess is one bonus, but still

Get on the 5% right away. Normally I am totally against minoxidil unless it's the worst case scenario. Your's my friend is the Worst Case scenario. Hopefully propecia will thicken up what you have and maybe add some definition to your hairline. You need the possible boost minoxidil could give you.

If money is not a problem and you can handle the religious applications. DO IT!!!!! You keep your hair short so application would be easy.

heh for some reason "the worst case scenario" made me laugh, though it shouldn't! Maybe its cos I've bin tokin...

But yeh I was thinkin I was at the stage where I needed to get on it. I mean I can really tell the difference between my hair now and my hair 6 months ago, I've lost ALOT. Even 3 months ago it was nowhere near as bad at the temples, its really been aggressive.

Two positives. You still have hair and 21 is a decent age(safety wise) to start the drug.

Propecia has a good chance of working with you, just hope to hell you're a good responder. Worst case scenario in my world is resorting to minoxidil because I f*cking hate everything about it. I would if I had too, and believe me I would have done it sooner than you have.

All I had to see was a little thinning, BAM right on minoxidil. But I could not deal iwth it. So went alone on propecia, just to maintain, and F8ck the regrowth. You my friend, need the Growth.

Good Luck.
