According to this oft-cited source http://www.physics.upenn.edu/facultyinfo/frankel/papers/propeciafda2/, .05 mg finasteride is just as effective at lowering scalp DHT as 1 mg (and 5 mg as well), but without lowering serum DHT levels quite as much.
On the flip side, it also appears that splitting the pills into 1/4ths or whatever and only taking .5 mg/.25 mg a day is exactly the same as taking 1 mg+. In terms of saving money - great, but not so great for side effects.
I just wonder where the diminishing returns begin to happen? The study jumps from .05 mg to .2 mg. Would .1 mg be similar to .05? Because although it would be a pain in the ***, I think cutting finasteride into 10 little pieces is actually possible, as opposed to 20 (!) to get the .05 mg dose. By then you would just have a fine powder to work with.
Which brings me to my next point......is it possible to put finasteride into some kind of liquid form? Get the ratio figured out and know exactly how much finasteride is in a certain amount of the liquid? That seems to be the best way to take the extra small doses, rather than trying to break up an already tiny pill into 10 pieces.
