Is it possible the whole thing is caused by free testosterone being at an incorrect level?

You think that a lack of 5ar in the bloodstream upregulates the receptors? Two thoughts on that: a) is it even in the bloodstream? lol. I honestly don't know. b) I'm not sure if androgen receptors can even detect that. I mean, I would agree that some people are not susceptible to male pattern baldness...

Yeah the progesterone approach doesn't really make sense to me because if it's just an androgen receptor blocker then... we already have lots of those, lol I'm not sure if there would be a benefit to using it topically on the scalp though. ... I won't ask why you were putting it on your balls o.0

Is it possible the whole thing is caused by free testosterone being at an incorrect level?

It would depend what the receptors are "set" to wouldn't it really. That part probably is genetic.

Is it possible the whole thing is caused by free testosterone being at an incorrect level?

I did find this on Wikipedia: "The androgen receptor is most closely related to the progesterone receptor, and progestins in higher dosages can block the androgen receptor." It seems to be the only other thing that can interact with it really, other than androgens. Finasteride blocks androgen...

Is it possible the whole thing is caused by free testosterone being at an incorrect level?

So you're saying that you believe it's a lack of progesterone that makes the androgen receptors upregulate, not a lack of free T? And you're saying it's simply genetics as opposed to free T? :)

Is it possible the whole thing is caused by free testosterone being at an incorrect level?

Most receptors in the body are sensitised/upregulated as far as I know by simply getting too much or too little of the hormone they react to. With age, testosterone production drops. Also, SHBG production increases, which binds free testosterone and makes it inactive. Therefore we end up with...

    Nicotinic acid (flush niacin) topical

lol, as I say I really wasn't super focused on hair for ages. I did try some small things here and there. I actually have had a fair amount of success with natural/alternative remedies, but not really for hair, so far. Although I did notice that silica made my hair look quite a bit better, even...

    Nicotinic acid (flush niacin) topical

It's been slowly thinning for 12 years now believe it or not and is now starting to finally become truly noticeable >.< To be honest... I wasn't focused on it for a long time as in the same time I've had steadily increasing other health problems that were more pressing and all started at...

    Nicotinic acid (flush niacin) topical

Has anyone ever tried this? There are some on eBay actually, marketed for hair loss. I've been thinking about this one for years. I did experiment fairly recently with some capsules of it by mixing about 150mg of it in water and then rubbing it on my skin to see if it made it go red or anything...

    Developing a slow release topical

Oh, for some reason I forgot to say that I think that the best thing to slow release would be nicotinic acid in order to increase bloodflow to the Galea. Or possibly an antifungal but I think nicotinic acid would be best. So erm, if anyone wants to help then just let me know :) That's not...

Antifungals and astringents, and the relation of Androgenetic Alopecia to acne

Well I'm sorry to hear that. But "natural remedies" (or rather I would say "alternative remedies") is just as broad if not broader a category as pharmaceutical drugs. On top of that you have dosage and so on. So I'm sorry that trying them didn't work for you but that's no good reason to come...

Antifungals and astringents, and the relation of Androgenetic Alopecia to acne

If anyone has issues here it's you. I still remember when you used to be a nice guy. What happened?

    Developing a slow release topical

I think this would benefit us greatly. Whatever you think is the cause of male pattern baldness, having a mechanism of creating slow release topicals ourselves could I believe be the difference between success and failure, and would save constant repeat applications (hell, some topicals only remain active for...

Antifungals and astringents, and the relation of Androgenetic Alopecia to acne

Well, that's one theory. Highly illogical in my opinion, but definitely a theory! - - - Updated - - - I've decided to start using a combination of antifungals daily. I'll wash my hair 1-2 times a day with shampoos with zinc pyrithione and salicylic acid, and maybe piroctone olamine and/or...

Antifungals and astringents, and the relation of Androgenetic Alopecia to acne

Hey dudes :) This is something I've been thinking about for a long time. I believe that Androgenetic Alopecia is caused by excess sebum (caused by excess DHT) which then becomes infected usually by a fungal strain (hence why most with Androgenetic Alopecia have dandruff). I believe it is then this INFECTION which kills the...
