Switching from brand name to generic

Thanks -- What do you make of articles like this? http://management.fortune.cnn.com/2013/01/10/generic-drugs-quality/

Switching from brand name to generic

Lol ... very true. Believe me, everything I read in these parts I take with a heap of salt. Rather, what I find disconcerting is that two doctors I have seen have called into question the efficacy of the generic form. The second one did not come out and say it but did say a few of his...

Switching from brand name to generic

Thanks for your response, I'm afraid generic drugs are not subject to the same stringent manufacturing processes as the original drug. The FDA requires the bioequivalence of the generic product to be between 80% and 125% of that of their brand name counterpart. There just appear to be an...

Switching from brand name to generic

Hi, On Sunday, I switched over to Dr. Reddy's 1mg after taking brand name Propecia for over a year, for money reasons; the cost of Propecia keeps rising. While I could dismiss all the scary internet anecdotes as the work of Merck shills, both a hair restoration surgeon and dermatologist I have...

    Does this idea hold water?

My Doctor originally prescribed me the 5mg tablets but I had my misgivings about cutting the non-scored pills. More generics are entering the market in the 1mg form so I'll probably move onto that. Has anyone begun using Camber - a new generic supplier of finasteride?

    Does this idea hold water?

Thanks for your response. Yes I saw the flaw in his logic but didn't mention it in the opening post. Why would there be little difference in effectiveness, but a difference in the incidence of side effects? Makes no sense. Perhaps I should up the dosage but it'll become more of a financial...

    Does this idea hold water?

Hi all, For almost a year I have taken .5mg (half a pill) of Propecia every day. My prescribing doctor (a hair restoration surgeon) insists that taking half the dosage isn't any less effective, at least not discernibly so. In his words: "There is only arounda 1% difference in DHT suppression...

    Losing Hair on finasteride

Well this doctor recommended cutting the 5mg pills and taking a quarter of a pill every OTHER day. He approves of my .5mg every day regimen. My dermatologist thinks I should just take 1mg Propecia every day, no cutting or skipping days.

    Losing Hair on finasteride

I have a bottle of 1mg Dr Reddy's and a full bottle of 5mg generic Proscar in my possession. I know the side effects of Propecia and the efficacy of Dr. Reddy's are seemingly exaggerated online. The only problem I have with the latter is that my doctor questioned the effectiveness of Dr...

    Losing Hair on finasteride

Thanks for the detailed response, Primo. You think I'm still shedding 9 months into the treatment? Regardless, I have every intention to stay the course. As for upping the dosage, I cannot afford 1mg of Propecia every day. It would come in a >$70 a month. I have 3 options, however: 1)...

    Losing Hair on finasteride

Not really. I don't associate with shorter hair, nor do I think it will flatter my face. Long hair worked for me for years and sadly those days may be over. I don't know if it's time to bump on the dosage from .5mg to 1mg. The hair restoration surgeon I've gone to is convinced the full dosage...

24 Year Old Wondering If It Is Time To Start Propecia

If your dermatologist doesn't think Propecia is necessary, I would heed his or her advice. Usually they dispense these drugs like candy. Your hair looks good. Well, I suppose I could see you losing it down the line, you seem to still have time. It's both good and bad that you are critical of...

    Losing Hair on finasteride

It's disheartening. I associate more with longer hair and did better with the ladies. Man, I wish I started Propecia back in January of 2011, around the time I found out about it. All these fear mongers delayed me a year and a half. I really have a bone to pick with them.

    Losing Hair on finasteride

Funny you say keep the hair short. Lately, I've been thinking about growing my hair back out. Ideally, something like this: http://i.imgur.com/huIfNfl.jpg That picture was taken 4 and a half years ago, so I don't know if it's possible. Why is it best to keep my hair short? Because it looks...

    Losing Hair on finasteride

Thank you for weighing in - I hope you're right! I added two more photos under '8 Month (Mid April)' ... You don't think the latest pic looks worse than December/January, regardless of angle?
